Koodo Mobile to increase rate plans by $5/month, will now include Call Display and Voicemail

Koodo Mobile has decided to increase their rate plans by $5/month. The change will go live tomorrow, February 3rd, and the major difference I can see is that all plans will now include Call Display and Voicemail – this usually this would run you $7/month each (or you could get the Call Display, Voicemail and Unlimited Messaging add-on for only $10/month). In addition, all plans still include Canada-wide calling, but have shifted towards per-minute billing, not per-second, and overage increases by 5 cents to 45 cents/minute.

“Refreshed” Nexus S hitting Koodo Mobile tomorrow for $200 [Update]

Koodo Mobile will be adding the Nexus S to their refurbished lineup up tomorrow. This will hit the various stores and the web for a cool $200 outright… all “refreshed” devices come with a 90 day warranty. The good news is that OS 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be coming soon to the device.

Update: We received an update to this post, our sources stated to us that the refreshed Nexus are scheduled to arrive today (January 19th) and that some location in the East coast have received them already, but there may be a delay for those stores in Western Canada. In addition, we’ve now been informed that these phones will only be available in store at Koodo shops, not available any resellers or online.

Update: Koodo Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9790 now available

We’ve seen the BlackBerry Bold 9790 pop up in the Koodo Mobile’s inventory before, so you know that it coming soon. We’ve been informed that this should be arriving “in the coming days” (probably December 2nd). What’s interesting is that we’re hearing that the retail price would be $400 – which would make them the carrier with the lowest price.

This will be a good addition to the Koodo lineup, giving them one more samrtphone and leaving the feature phones behind. As for the 9790 specs, this comes with a 2.45-inch touchscreen display, full QWERTY keyboard, 1GHz processor, 5MP camera and Wi-Fi.

Update: Well that didn’t take long at all. Koodo has launched the BlackBerry Bold 9790 for $400, $250 on the Tab. More here at Koodo

Koodo’s new Data Saver add-ons officially launches Monday, so will an increase in Voicemail and Call display

A month ago we posted news that Koodo Mobile was going to release new Data Saver add-on rates. These will be available tomorrow (Monday, November 28th) and the monthly costs and data ranges are listed above in the brochure – yesterday Virgin matched these rates with their new data flex plans. In addition to the changes in data rates, Koodo will also be slightly increasing both the call display and voicemail add-on to $7/month, up $1.

Koodo launching new data flex plan November 21st

The above brochure is a plan that Koodo Mobile will be putting in place on November 21st. It’s a new data flex plan and gives more data for a lower price. If you go over your monthly data usage you’ll automatically be bumped to the next price level. Here’s what you can expect (good for the new iPhone 4S and upcoming Android devices) :

$5/month: 0MB – 25MB
10/month: 26MB – 100MB
$15/month: 101MB – 300MB
$20/month: 301MB – 1GB
$30/month: 1GB – 3GB (anything overage rate of 2c/MB)

LG Optimus One “Skype Edition” coming to Koodo Mobile

The LG Optimus One was Koodo Mobile’s first Android device and it was released last March. Other Android devices have taken over their lineup, such as INQ Cloud Touch, LG Optimus Chat, Samsung Galaxy Ace and the Nexus S. According to this internal screenshot it shows that Koodo will launch the LG Optimus One “Skype Edition” for $175 outright. No word if Koodo will be placing the original Optimus One on End of Life status, or if this will be simply added to the lineup. The specs will be exactly the same except this Skype Edition, which is similar to TELUS’ LG Optimus Black Skype Edition, will have Skype preloaded and come with the ability to purchase and bill Skype credits directly to your wireless account.

BlackBerry Bold 9790 spotted in Koodo Mobile’s inventory system

Over the past few months the unreleased BlackBerry Bold 9790 has received its share of picture and video leaks. The 9790 looks incredibly similar to the Bold 9780, but has some features that are found on the new 9900. Most notably, the 9790 has a 2.44-inch touchscreen with a QWERTY keyboard. In addition, this it’s also expected to have a 1.2GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera, NFC capabilities and Wi-Fi… so it’s a decent mid-range BlackBerry device.

The BlackBerry Bold 9790 will probably be announced sometime this week during BlackBerry DevCon, but we’ve also seen it pop up in both the TELUS and Wind Mobile device road maps. Now, discount carrier Koodo Mobile (owned by TELUS) looks to be prepping to launch this soon. The image above is a shot from their inventory system, clearly listing the Bold 9790. The price point looks to be $400 but we’re not sure yet if this is simply a placeholder or the true no-contract price.

Koodo will launch the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 8GB on October 14th

Rogers, Fido, Bell, TELUS and Virgin all started taking pre-orders for the new iPhone 4S yesterday, the official launch date is on October 14th. MTS confirmed to us that “We can confirm that MTS will have the iPhone 4S”, but gave no indication of its availability.

Koodo Mobile – who we are hearing is having tremendous success with the iPhone 4 sales – has not come forward yet about the iPhone 4S. On the Apple Canada site it states they’ll release it, but confirmation is always a good thing. This internal screenshot shows it’ll be available for sale across Canada on the 14th. In addition, you can also expect Koodo to start selling the iPhone 4 8GB model too. No word on the 4S prices, probably $160 on 3-year and $500 on the Tab.

Koodo Samsung Galaxy Ace now available for $200

Get ready for another Android to hit Canadian land. Over the weekend the Samsung Galaxy “Ace” was unofficially slapped with the to-familiar “coming soon” label, but we’ve been informed that this Android 2.3 device will make its way to Koodo Mobile customers ~~on October 7th~~ today. As expected, the no-contract price point will be $200 and $50 on the Tab. Good deal for the entry-level Android – the Ace has a 3.5-inch display, 800 MHz processor, 5 megapixel camera and Wi-Fi.

Update: Well, it’s now available on Koodo’s site. Same price points as above.

Koodo Mobile Samsung Galaxy Ace “coming soon”

Last week we posted a screenshot that showed Koodo Mobile will be bringing on the Samsung Galaxy Ace, an entry level version of the Galaxy S II. Even though Koodo themselves have not announced this Android device, Future Shop has listed it as “coming soon”. As noted earlier, the no-term price point will be $200 outright, so the Tab pricing could very well be $50. In addition, the specs of the Ace are impressive for its price: OS 2.3 Gingerbread, 800 MHz processor, 3.5-inch display, 5 megapixel camera and Wi-Fi.
