Mobilicity signs distribution agreement with The Brick

Here’s the latest point of wireless distribution. The Brick. This is one of Canada’s big furniture, mattress, appliance, electronics retailers who usually has a “Tent Sale” to get rid of old inventory, and they’re now home to full-service Mobilicity kiosks.

Mobilicity operates in Toronto, Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver, but will only sell in the Toronto and Edmonton locations. According to the press release this strategy “reinforces Mobilicity’s commitment to growing its national retail distribution” and the kiosks “will complement The Brick’s electronics department” by offering the latest devices and plans.

Mobilicity COO Anthony Booth stated that “Teaming up with The Brick makes a lot of sense. After all, Canadians have turned to The Brick for added value for years. We are excited about bringing The Brick customers the value they deserve in wireless.”

Mobilicty previously declared that they were Canada’s “fastest-growing new wireless entrant.” It’s estimated they have approximately 300,000 subscribers.

Nokia Lumia 710 now available at Mobilicity

Mobilicity launching the Nokia Lumia 710 has been no mystery, but very welcomes. The company put this on their site as “coming soon” for the past couple weeks and it’s now available. The price, as expected, is $249.99 outright – making it the cheapest place to officially score this entry level Windows Phone 7 Mango device. Wind has this priced at $259 and Rogers lists it for $254.99.

Our full review of the 710 is here, but a reminder of the specs have it coming with a 3.7-inch touchscreen (800 x 480), 5MP camera that shoots 720p videos and a 1.4GHz processor.

Mobilicity going on a 4-day sales blitz, will discount monthly rate plans by 50%

Mobilicity is back at it… huge discounts on their monthly rate plans. This time it’s to the tune of a mongo 50%. Of course there is fine print. According to the doc we received it states that this new “Unbelievable Sale” is on for four days (May 17 – 20) and is reserved for new activations only, with the 50% off good for 1-year of service “while on preauthorized credit.” This means that their “Unlimited Starter” plan drops from $25/month to $12.50/month and their top tier “Unlimited Everything” drops to a low $22.50/month.

Mobilicity, who recently proclaimed themselves as the “fastest-growing new wireless entrant” previously had a sale like this and reported “thousands of new customers” signed up. Hopefully this promo will return when Mobilicity launches the Samsung Galaxy S III. However, if you’re interested you best be heading to your local store.

Samsung Galaxy Q hits Mobilicity stores, available for $200

The Samsung Galaxy Q has been launched by Mobilicity today. This is another entry level Android that has some similarities to their current Galaxy mini, but comes with a better 3.2-inch display, better camera at 3.2MP, and has a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The Q runs OS 2.3 Gingerbread – probably will stay there too – and is priced at $199.99 outright.

You can grab this device here from Mobilicity, but remember, they’ve signed up to launch the Galaxy S III this Summer. Could be worth holding out for.

Mobilicity on the Nokia Lumia 710: It’s “coming soon”

The Nokia Lumia 710 train is coming to Canada and making a few stops. Once called an “exclusive” on Rogers, WIND and Mobilicity will be launching this Windows Phone Mango device. Earlier today we reported that WIND will start selling this on May 3rd for $259 outright. Competing carrier Mobilicity now proudly says it’s “coming soon,” but no clue of when. However, the the Lumia 710 was listed on their website over the weekend, then quickly pulled, for $249 no-term, potentially making it the most affordable place to score this handset.

It was a good possibility that the Nokia Lumia 710 would be hitting all AWS carriers. This Windows Phone 7 Mango device arrived on the WIND Mobile site a couple weeks ago with the familiar “coming soon” label. Now competing carrier Mobilicity says they’ll release it as well, but no word on the official release date. The entry-level smartphone is priced at $249.99 – Rogers is selling the 710 for $254.99 – and there’s no clue yet of what WIND will release it at. We’ll probably see Videotron bring the Lumia 710 on as well.

Mobilicity BlackBerry Bold 9900 upgrade to OS 7.1.0.267 now available to download

Many Canadian carriers have the BlackBerry Bold 9900 – it’s currently RIM’s best smartphone until the BlackBerry 10 devices launch later this year. The upgrade to OS 7.1 has been pushed out to owners over the past couple months, this brings the ability to turn the 9900 into Wi-Fi hotspot. Bell, Virgin, SaskTel, WIND, TELUS and MTS have all made their customers happy. It’s just Rogers, Mobilicity and Videotron that are the stragglers.

Well, today Mobilicity Bold 9900 customers will be joyous as OS version 7.1.0.267 is now available to download. As always, make sure you back up your device before download – but you can grab it here from BlackBerry.

Mobilicity launches the Samsung Galaxy S 4G at an introductory $299.99 outright

Mobilicity went live with their new plans today, something the company says has “over 30% more value” than their previous plans. You can check out all the details of the new plans here. In addition, Mobi took a swipe at the other newer players, probably WIND, by stating that the new features they’ve added is “in sharp contrast to its new entrant peers, who recently increased their wireless rates, and Big 3 carriers known for charging among the highest rates in the developed world.”

As for a new device, well actually a 2-year old Android, Mobilicity released the Samsung Galaxy S 4G today for $299.99 – this is an introductory price and will only be available “while supplies last”, afterwards it’ll be jacked up to $349.99 (WIND is currently selling the SGS for $399.99).

Samsung Galaxy S 4G heading to Mobilicity

The Samsung Galaxy S 4G seems to be getting a new lease on life, a resurrection of sorts. This flagship Android was incredibly popular when it was first released a couple years ago – since it’s sold well over 20 million units worldwide. Recently WIND Mobile launched the Galaxy S 4G for $399 outright and this image ensures Mobilicity will follow. You can expect this to hit stores within the next few days and we’re hearing the price will come in between $349 – $399.

Mobilicity revamping plans with new names, plus including North American Voice roaming

Mobilicity seems to be coming out with new names for their rate plans. The prices will be staying the same, but the features in some plans will be slightly adjusted to include voice roaming and the Phone Protection Plan. This will start next week and in the above doc you’ll see a flyer of the old rate plans on the left, new ones on the right. I believe it’s the first time a carrier has included roaming in a plan.

$25 Unlimited Starter: Local talk, North American Text & Picture messaging, Province wide long distance Caller ID, call waiting, Call Fowarding, 3-way calling

$35 Unlimited Plus: Same features as the $25/month, plus Voicemail, global text, Canadian long distance, light data (social networking + email, or BBM + email), 15 mins of North American roaming.

$45 Unlimited Value: Mobilicity calls this the “Best Value” and has the same features as the $35/month plus unlimited data, 30 mins of North American roaming, U.S. long distance

$55 Unlimited Everything: Same features as the $45/month plan, plus includes 60 mins of North American roaming and the Phone Protection Plan (usually priced between $5 – $7 depending on what kind of device you own).
