Rogers White BlackBerry Bold 9700 being discontinued June 1st

Every device must come to an end of life. It’s sad to see the BlackBerry Bold 9700 be part of this list of upcoming EOL (End of Life) status. Here’s a list of the devices that will soon vanish from Rogers:

- Nokia 2720 (subsidy ends April 1, 2011)
- Samsung Hype A256 (subsidy ends April 1, 2011)
- HP Mini 210 (subsidy ends April 1, 2011)
- Samsung S366R (subsidy ends April 1, 2011)
- Samsung N86 (subsidy ends May 1, 2011)
- Sony Ericsson W200 (white) (subsidy ends May 1, 2011)
- BlackBerry Bold 9700 (white) (subsidy ends June 1, 2011)

This was such a milestone device for RIM – somewhat upscale. However, newer devices are available such as the Bold 9780 and all the upcoming BlackBerry devices that have much better specs (NFC, record HD videos, better display).

Airtel Wireless first in Canada to offer the Android iDEN Motorola i1

It’s official. Calgary-based Airtel Wireless is the first in Canada to launch the iDEN Motorola i1. This push-to-talk device can be yours for $299.99 on a 3-year contract or $399.99 no contract. Specs have this running Android OS 1.5, has a 3.1-inch touchscreen display HVGA (resolution of 320×480), push-to-talk capabilities, 5.0 megapixel camera, WiFi, GPS, holds up to 32GB with a micro SD card and meets Military Specification 810F so you can basically rough it up and it can take a beating.

Motorola i1 arrives on the Canadian site, destined for TELUS’ Mike and Airtel

Not to sure when the upcoming Motorola iDen i1 popped up on the Canadian site, but it means that it’s certainly coming soon. This Android-powered device will be hitting both TELUS’ Mike Network “in the Fall” and Airtel Wireless most likely within a couple weeks. The prices on Mike have yet to be announced but Airtel has said the no-contract will be $399.99.

You can check out the full specs over at Motorola but this comes with Android 1.5, a 3.1-inch touchscreen display (resolution of 320×480), push-to-talk capabilities, 5.0 megapixel camera, WiFi, GPS, holds up to 32GB with a micro SD card.

Motorola i1 Android iDEN hitting Airtel Wireless soon

Calgary-based Airtel Wireless launched their iDEN network back in July of last year, their major competition is TELUS’ Mike Network as they both offer “Push-to-Connect” services. They haven’t officially released a new device for what seems to be months but that’s all about to change soon.

We received an e-mail from Airtel stating “Airtel Wireless in Calgary was approved this week by Google to offer the new Motorola Android i1 in Canada. We will receive our first order in approx 4 weeks. We are very excited to offer the newest Android products on our iDEN network in Calgary.”

No word on pricing but it’s always good to have another option of where you can pick the i1 up. This will be available “sometime this fall” on the Mike Network too.

Update: Regarding the pricing, you can expect this to be priced at $399.99 no contract.

Airtel releases Motorola Brute i680 for $209

It looks like Wind Mobile and Mobilicity are not the only ones looking to compete in the Canadian wireless scene. Calgary-based Airtel Wireless recently re-branded their offerings with new plans and devices and today they have released the iDen friendly Motorola Brute i680.

You might remember last week when TELUS’ MiKe Network released this for $229.99 on a 3-year contract or $429.99 with no contract. However, over at Airtel you can pick this same device up for $209 on a 3-year contract or a low $309 with no contract.

The Brute as described by Airtel allows you to “Make a mockery of the elements”. This can handle all sorts of nasty elements such as rain, dust, shock, vibration, extreme temperatures, salt, fog, humidity and solar radiation. The Brute has a 1.3-inch external display and a 2.2-inch internal display (resolution is 176×220), comes with a 2 megapixel camera, GPS, Bluetooth, Music Player, 2.5mm headset jack with overall dimensions are 100 x 53 x 26 mm with a weight of 159 grams.

Airtel launches new website… offers Push-to-Connect users a choice with Motorola devices

Airtel Wireless launched their iDen network back in July of last year, this gave Push-to-Connect user a new choice when they were looking for a device/plans. Their main competitor is TELUS’ MiKe Network who offer the same service. Originally when they announced their entrance the brand was not completely created but after many months they’ve finally come out swinging.

Airtel offers a few different services from what looks to be only for those located in Calgary.
Churp: 2-way Private One-to-One Digital Service
AirSupply Churp: (2-way) and Talk (Cellular communication)
AirControl: Convert any PC into a Churp™ (2-way) Device
AirSecure: Remote Cellular Networks
AirTrac: Real-time GPS Tracking

More specifically when it comes to rate plans and devices:
$40 per month gets you the “Unlimited AirSupply” that includes Unlimited Talk and Unlimited One-to-One Churp
$30 per month gets you the “AirSupply 500″ and includes 500 minutes of Talk time and Unlimited One-to-One Churp
$20 per month gets you the “AirSupply 100: and includes 100 minutes of Talk time and Unlimited One-to-One Churp.
If you want no talk time you can just go for a $20 per month Churp Private one-to-one

For devices, Airtel offers:
Motorola i9: $199 on a 3-year contract or $349 no contract
Motorola i335: $0 on a 3-year contract or $149 no contract
Motorola i365: $99 on a 3-year contract or $199 no contract
Motorola i365IS: $349 on a 3-year contract or $499 no contract

Alberta welcomes new “Push-to-Connect” focussed Airtel Wireless

Alberta-based Airtel Wireless is the new name in town as they have somewhat launched a wireless network that will offer “Push-to-Connect” services. They have partnered with Motorola to offer its lineup of iDEN handsets. Although no handsets are currently listed on the Airtel website, you can expect some of them to be the Motorola i9, i335, i365, i365IS, Motorola Clutch i465 (coming to the MiKE Network soon), i605 and the i850.

Airtel has teased Albertans a bit as they have posted their rate plans online and stated they will give customers “Low Flat Rate. No surprises on your bill”.

They include the “Cell and Push-to-Connect” with 3 colours to choose from:
Black Plan gives you 750 minutes for $40 per month
Orange Plan gives you 1750 minutes for $$75 per month
Black Plan gives you 3000 minutes for $99 per month

In addition, their “Push to Connect” has 2 choices:
Private Calling is unlimited for $25 a month
Private and Group Calling is unlimited for $30 per month
