Vancouver developers of Splitter Critters featured in App Store’s ‘Canada’s Best Game Makers’

Apple is highlighting RAC7, the Vancouver-based developers of the hit game Splitter Critters, as part the “Canada’s Best Game Makers” list on the App Store.

The game has players swiping across the screen in order to split the world, solve puzzles and guide critters back to their spaceship.

Notably, RAC7 is a team of only two developers — Jesse Ringrose and Jason Ennis — who quit their jobs to become make games full-time. It’s since worked out for them, with the pair taking away an Apple Design award at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose earlier in June.

In fact, Splitter Critters is one of only two Canadian games on the App Store to win the award, with Toronto’s Drinkbox Studios also receiving recognition for its action title Severed.

Splitter Critters is available on the App Store for $3.99.

This recognition is part of a larger showcase by Apple of Canadian App Store developer talent, in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday. ‘Made in Canada’ section launched on the App Store in March, which has since highlighted games specifically made in Toronto and Waterloo, Montréal and Calgary.

App Store development has been a highly lucrative business for developers across the globe, having earned over $70 billion USD since the platform launched in 2008.
