Saskatchewan-based regional carrier SaskTel has announced its plans to continue upgrading the wireless services in rural Saskatchewan, due to an “ever-growing” demand for wireless service.
The Regina-based company states in a press release that it plans to upgrade LTE capacity in 35 more communities before the end of the summer. In fact, SaskTel intends to enhance the wireless services in the majority of the 35 communities before the Canada Day long weekend, while SaskTel intends to upgrade the rest of the communities in time for the August long weekend.

By adding LTE network carriers on its towers, the carrier says it will improve the LTE capacity in each of these communities by 20 percent to 100 percent.
SaskTel has already upgraded the wireless LTE capacities in 19 rural and resort communities within the last few months.
“Our government is committed to investing in the future of Saskatchewan,” said Dustin Duncan, the minister responsible for SaskTel in a press release. “Today’s announcement is a step forward that ensures the people of rural Saskatchewan have access to the fast and reliable communications services that are required to connect and be successful in today’s economy and into the future.”
Within the last year, SaskTel had an LTE expansion that brought wireless LTE service to more than 400 towers in rural Saskatchewan. The expansion increased SaskTel’s LTE footprint, which now covers 99 percent of the population of Saskatchewan.
“We are pleased to enhance our wireless service in these rural and resort communities so that the people living in them or just visiting for the weekend will be able to stay connected to their lives and the people that matter most to them,” said Ron Styles, SaskTel president and CEO in a press release.
The 2016 and 2017 LTE enhancements, along with the upgrades currently happening, are part of the Regina-based company’s commitment to invest $1.4 billion CAD of capital in the province through 2016 to 2021.
