Each month Sony and Microsoft release free games for their respective consoles.

In June, free games available via PlayStation Plus include titles like Life is Strange and Killing Floor 2. Microsoft opts for a slightly different strategy when compared to Sony and releases free games twice a month through its Xbox Games with Gold service, though it appears that Microsoft is doing something a little different, at least for this month. Five games will be available for Xbox this month, three games released over the course of the month and two that will be available all month long.

This means that Phantom Dust DLC and Speedrunner will be available for the whole month of June, though Phantom Dust is always free on the Xbox Marketplace, though its downloadable content is not. Assassin’s Creed 3 is set to be available from June 1st to June 15th, while Watch Dogs will be available from June 15th to the 30th. Lastly Dragons Age Origins will be available for free download from June 15th to July 16th.

PS4, PS3, PS Vita

Killing Floor 2

Developed and published by Tripwire interactive, Killing Floor 2 is a first-person shooter that has the player killing waves of zombie-like creatures called Zeds.

In Killing Floor 2 the player fights through waves of Zeds until eventually encountering a boss they have to defeat. This game can also be played in co-op, though the amount of enemies and the difficulty also scales with how many people the player co-ops with.

Life Is Strange

Developed by Dontnod Entertainment and published by Square Enix, Life Is Strange is an episodic graphic adventure game that consists of five episodes. Though the episodes were released at different times throughout 2015, the series’ five episodes are all available with this free download.

The game focuses on photography student who also has the power rewind time though each choice they make creates a butterfly effect. Life Is Strange is best described as an interactive storytelling game.

The PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3 also have a few games landing for free this month: Abyss Odyssey, WRC 5: World Rally Championship, while Spy Chameleon is available for the PS Vita and Neon Chrome is coming to the PS Vita and is cross-buy compatible with the PS4.

Xbox One

Phantom Dust DLC

As mentioned earlier, Phantom Dust is always available on the Xbox Marketplace, however the DLC, free for the complete month of June, will give players the opportunity to jump right into multiplayer battles online and not feel like their outmatched versus veterans of the game. The DLC also offers extra skills and bonuses that can give the player specific advantages and powers throughout the game.

Phantom Dust, originally released for the Xbox, is an action strategy game developed and published by Microsoft Game Studios. The game features elements of the first-person shooter genre couples with strategy card game elements.

Speedrunner

Speedrunner is not much of a game to be excited for, and at least the first level can be played for free on your PC. Speedrunner developed by DoubleDutch Games is not actually about racing against other people — well at least not the single player — but more so racing against time as you’re a superhero running and avoiding obstacles to try and save the innocent.

However, when it comes to multiplayer, the game gets a little more dangerous and heroes end up trying to be the first on scene, which means playing dirty is necessary.

Assassin’s Creed 3

Published and developed by Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed 3 is a third-person action adventure game. The title follows Desmond ancestor Connor as he climbs walls, parkours around objects and kills every enemy that gets in his way.

The player will have to stealthily move around the streets of 18th century New York, Boston and the vast wilderness.  The game also features weather simulations such as snow, fog and rain, while even the seasons can change in this game.

This game is playable on both the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One.

Watch Dogs

Published and Developed by Ubisoft, Watch Dogs is a open world action adventure hacking game. This Grand Theft Auto-like title follows the life of Aiden Pearce who avenging the death of his niece Lena.

The game has stealth mechanics, third-person shooting mechanics and allows the player to hack people’s bank accounts to get money and stop lights to make quick getaways. Watch Dogs also includes a co-op mechanic where the player can invade the world and try to kill other Aiden Pearces.

Dragon Age: Origins

Travel to the land of dragons and mystical creatures and play the game developed by Bioware and published by EA. Dragon Age: Origins is an action role-playing game that has the player, Grey Warden, travel the lands trying to fight and kill an Archdemon.

The player can design their character, pick whether they’re going to be male or female, and choose from three classes, mage, rogue and knight and three races dwarf, elf and human. Though the game definitely has aged and looks very different from Bioware’s newest Dragon Age game, Inquisition, it runs smoothly and still can give hours of fun playing through quests.

This game is playable on both the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One.
