Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow mobile game gets trailer and gameplay details

The first fully-animated teaser for the upcoming Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow mobile game has been revealed.

This marks the first time official Futurama animation has been released since the show ended in 2013.

The game was previously announced back in February, but few details related to gameplay were revealed. Worlds of Tomorrow is a free-to-download mobile game developed by game studio TinyCo, the makers of Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff and Marvel Avengers Academy.

TinyCo is partnering with Fox, Futurama creator and executive producer Matt Groening and his Curiosity Company, along with executive producer David X. Cohen, original Futurama writers and voice cast, and Rough Draft Studios, who animated the hit TV show.

Some gameplay details were also announced in the press release, with two game said to offer different experiences between two main locations.

In New New York, players will tackle story-driven quest and rescue characters, collect special items, level up characters and craft ability-enhancing outfits. In Space Adventures, players can create teams of fan-favourite Futurama characters and travel through space, where they’ll fight alien enemies in retro arcade-style combat rendered in 16-bit graphics.

The game will be coming to iOS and Android devices. While the game can be downloaded at no cost, Cohen told USA Today in a podcast that there will be add-ons priced between $1 and $50 USD.

No specific release date has been confirmed at this time, although people can pre-register for updates on Google Play or on the game’s web site.
