Pokémon Go’s Adventure Week events wants to help players find rare Rock-type Pokémon

Pokemon Go Adventure Week

Later this week, Niantic will launch a new special event within Pokémon GO.

Dubbed Adventure Week, the weeklong event starts on Thursday, May 18th at 1pm PDT and is scheduled to continue until May 25th.

During the event, players will find rare Gen 1 Rock-type Pokémon Omanyte, Kabuto, Aerodactyl and their respective evolutions more frequently. Moreover, Buddy Pokémon will find candies, an item used to increase a Pokémon’s attack power, at four times the normal rate. Players will also find a new Explorer’s Hat in their wardrobe.

Niantic doesn’t say whether the hat is purely cosmetic or if it confers some kind of special in-game effect, merely that players should equip it on their avatar.

To help players prepare for Adventure PokéStops will reward more times each visit, and Poké Balls are 50 percent off in the in-game store.

“Pokémon Go was developed for people to easily experience classic Pokémon gameplay on their mobile device and catch Pokémon in the real world. As a result, every day, people around the globe go outside, explore the world around them, make some new memories, and get some exercise along the way,” says Niantic by way of explaining the rationale behind the event. “We’d love to honor the memories created so far, and our collective journey yet to come…”

Niantic also announced that Pokémon GO have collectively traveled more than 15.8 billion kilometers.
