This week’s show featured bilateral hosts Rose Behar and Zach Gilbert with Ian Hardy. More later on the two-headed approach to hosting.

Android O up first. The recent release’s news inventory was recapped in a by-rote fashion covering notifications, picture-in-picture, and third party auto-fill solutions. This wasn’t an overly engaging segment. As the show went on the short tangent to Casper sleeping products should have been seen as the canary in the coalmine. An Ambien substitute of sorts.

Galaxy S8 up next and here too there appeared a lack of fervor. Thankfully Ian’s eventual take on how most phones look alike finally injected a discussion point that made for engaging listening. The content that followed his interjection provided the show’s highlight as all three podcasters talked through their opinions relevantly. Sadly, this was the last of the listening worthy content.

Apple news closed out the show’s segment lineup. Here Zach took the lead and it became obvious the show is better served with him as a contributor vs. host. It’s not that he’s not knowledgeable, it that’s he offers nothing that had me thinking he could springboard others into anything other than token talking points.

At the beginning of the podcast a solicitation was made to determine a hosting hierarchy. From what I heard, there needs to be a “none of the above” check box. I’ve said in the past that Igor is just outside of the big leagues when it comes to hosting; a AAA prospect with a chance at the bigs. For MobileSyrup contrast check out how far Daniel Bader has come. After today’s show, he’s clearly the pick of the litter here and his absence creates a void that cripples the show.

It’s too bad this trio offered such a somnambulistic show in a week with real news and an upcoming flagship release. In contrast to other tech blog podcasts on offer, MobileSyrup still lags in consistency and quality. The ball’s in your court Mr. Hardy.

This week’s show gets a 7.9 SMSPR (Subjective MobileSyrup Podcast Review) score. Rose’s singing voice is clearly better than her hosting skills.
