How is any of this stuff helping the company’s fortunes? Does management here even live on the same planet or are they now resorting to what looks fashionable to stand out from the crowd? What’s the monetization from any of this?
Once again just another BS PR gimmick from these guys.

    • Not everything is for profit. Sometimes you wanna just not see people die for no reason.

    • Shogun

This company has bigger problems than pretending its Santa Claus sliding down the chimney with surprises and goodies for all. They are not in business to be do-gooders. Start delivering value to investors or close the shop. Bottom line

    • The real Chug that Haterade

But I thought you weren’t an investor so why do you care what they do?

    • The real Chug that Haterade

Yeah…. they shouldn’t do anything to benefit society…..especially because YOU think it is a “pr gimmick”

    • Can’t Fix Stupid

Hey might as well jump on the PC train and get some publicity. The reality is that because the govt has to handle the natives with PC kid gloves this type of crime goes unpunished. Caledonia much? If this was to be effective the end result would be tossing a bunch of native men in prisons for some solid jail time…but I don’t see it happening.

    • Omar

Prevention is more important. You throw a bunch of native men in prison and that will have a negative effect on the communities these men are a part of. Find the root of the problem and fix that, instead. The only people who benefit from “throwing a bunch of men” in prison are private prison owners.

    • MoYeung

If prison could solve any problems, USA would be the safest place on Earth.

    • Dankey

      It is, isn’t it…? Oh……………wait.

    • MoYeung

Google a guy named Robert Pickton; apparently not native men’s fault.

    • Can’t Fix Stupid

So a) he’s responsible for most of this and b) he didn’t go to jail?

    • Omar

      Life in prison.

    • MoYeung

In This Example, he got convicted for a couple of murders, but at least 20 more were not prosecuted… Somebody has been getting away with it for “a long time”, and then god knows how many more like him out there…

    • Omar

Unless you are a shareholder, why do you care? They are doing something beneficial for the aboriginal community. Is it a PR gimmick? Maybe. But if it helps to put a stop to the murder and disappearance of aboriginal women, so what? Will they lose money? Sure. But why do you care if they lose money? BlackBerry could cure cancer and you people would still complain lol.

    • The real Chug that Haterade

      This ^^

    • Shogun

I know people who are shareholders and really what does it matter if I’m a shareholder personally? You seem more intent to attack me on these points than acknowledge they are legitimate and the notion this company is going to save the lives of aboriginal women is patently ludicrous.

    • The real Chug that Haterade

Oh… so you know know people that are shareholders and that is why you care so much? Gotcha…. do you complain about other stuff too (non BlackBerry related) that impacts your “friends”?

    • Omar

Not sure why you’re getting defensive. You didn’t make any points, you complained this won’t make them any money and I said so what, because unless YOU are a shareholder them making or losing money has absolutely no affect on YOUR life (I don’t buy your claim that your friends are shareholders when I see you constantly whine and complain to anybody here who simply doesn’t say “Blackberry is crap” lol). And if they aren’t doing this t make money, something the both of us seem to agree on, then why would even considering that they are doing this to genuinely help the aboriginal community be “patently ludicrous”?

    • The real Chug that Haterade

He is a crusader for his friends and family who have ever been “wronged” by BlackBerry… I know my neighbor has issues with the new car they bought so I plan on picketing the dealership for them as well as bashing Ford daily on the internet… I’ll show them.. *shakes fist*

    • Shogun

Hey Omar…I don’t care whether you believe I know shareholders or not and the idea I’m making no point when you acknowledge the point I made, that its not making them any money or turning their fortunes around as a business, shows you are just dancing around the issue.
And since when does a story have to affect my life or yours or the next person’s to comment on it? Geesh! Is that the criteria for posting now? You have to have a skin in the game? Puleeze.

I’m not being defensive but you are just out here to criticize me personally, like a couple others I know, when in fact its you that has no point.

    • The real Chug that Haterade

So Apple employees participating the LGBTQ pride parade make Apple money? It is called Corporate Social Responsibility…. look it up. And Omar’s point is valid…. you do nothing here but constantly bash BlackBerry for anything and everything. You don’t own stock in BlackBerry so stop whining about their executive compensation or the fact that the participate in initiatives like this.

  • This is a really good cause and a serious issue in Canada. The fact that it isn’t that it is constantly buried under news that sometimes isn’t even national specific is kinda disgusting.

    • Dankey

Right. And the fact that the main perpetrators of violence against indigenous women are not even mentioned goes some way to explaining this. Australia has the same deep-rooted problem but the progressive green-left has killed the debate with it’s customary bigotry and intolerance before it has even begun
NOTHING will change while political correctness effectively stifles ANY meaningful debate; another exercise in ‘virtue signalling’…?

  • George

Who knows! Maybe they can do this job right! Hahaha!

  • Can’t Fix Stupid

Who is doing the violence against these indigenous women?

    • BBRYSUXBALLS_2.1

iPhone and Andriod users. Who else?

    • Can’t Fix Stupid

True, I’ll bet BB wants to nab some of them and then reclaim #1 status.

  • Do Do

I’m not following how they’re not already protected by Canadian Laws, like every other citizen. Sounds like a lot of political nonsense….again. Just what blackberry needs.

    • Omar

They are protected by the laws in theory, but not application. This isn’t so hard to understand. The media sweeps it under the rug so it might be a non-issue for some, but it is a very real issue for the aboriginal community and thus should be one for Canada.

    • MoYeung

Law says one thing, but the Reality says another.

    • MoYeung

You must be talking about “May 1930 White Man’s Justice for a Black Man’s Crime”.

    • MoYeung

There are difficult questions about whether ethnic minority communities are getting a fair deal in justice system.

  • BBRYSUXBALLS_2.1

Good job Chen master. A true hero for all Canadians
