The Apple Music streaming platform now has “well past” 20 million paying subscribers, according to Apple’s senior vice-president of internet software and services, Eddy Cue.

Cue spoke at the Code Media event hosted by tech publication Recode in Dana Point, California. Along with stating that the platform had moved far past the 20 million milestone achieved in December 2016, Cue noted that the company was still not satisfied with the number and would continue to keep pushing growth.

Growth has been relatively swift for the platform, which was at 10 million subscribers a little over a year ago in January 2016. Its major competitor, Spotify, is still far ahead with a reported 40 million paid subscribers in September 2016 — not counting the subscribers that use its free, ad-supported version, which likely brings it over 100 million total.

Both Spotify and Apple music charge the $9.99 CAD per month for individuals, $4.99 for students and $14.99 per month for families.

Meanwhile, Google Play Music has yet to release any official subscriber numbers though there are indications that it’s faring pretty well. Amazon’s music streaming service, Amazon Music Unlimited, which was launched in October 2016 and is not yet available in Canada, has yet to release any official numbers.
