After a considerable wait, Lenovo’s long-anticipated augmented reality phablet is now listed as shipping to Canada for $649.99 CAD. The Canadian website shows an expected delivery time of five to seven days.
The handset features three rear-mounted cameras — a standard 16-megapixel camera and two capable of tracking motion and measuring depth — that allow the phone to act as an augmented reality device in partnership with Google’s Tango project.
The massive 6.4-inch smartphone with a 2560 x 1440 pixel display also features an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor (1.8GHz clocked), 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM. Supporting all of that is a 4,050mAH battery. Out of the box the Phab 2 Pro runs Android 6.0.
The device appears to be available in ‘Gunmetal Grey’ only via Lenovo’s website.
In accompaniment to the release, Google also announced over 35 new Tango apps with various partners. The games include Slingshot Island, which lets Phab 2 Pro owners use their device as an augmented reality motion controller to sling projectiles in a faraway fantasy land called Poach. There’s also Crayola Color Blaster, which lets users blast cartoon zombies with paint.
MobileSyrup has reached out to Lenovo for more information on the Phab 2 Pro’s availability in Canada.
Update 11/21/16: The Lenovo Phab 2 Pro is now once again showing availability on the Canadian website. Lenovo reached out to MobileSyrup to let us know that stock will be available for Canada by mid-December: “The U.S. is expected first week of December and we will follow by 5-7 days.”
Update 11/13/16: Despite previous confirmation from the company that the Phab 2 Pro had become available in Canada, the website now states that no models are currently available. MobileSyrup has reached out the Lenovo to check on the status of the device.
Update 11/2/16: In response to our query, Lenovo told MobileSyrup that for now the Phab 2 Pro is solely available through its Canadian website, adding: “We’re looking at expanding to some other options – but for right now the Lenovo website will be the only available place to order the product.”
