Microsoft’s Surface Dial will be compatible with the Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book

Along with its brand new iMac competitor, the Surface Studio, Microsoft has announced an intriguing new accessory — the Surface Dial.

The Dial is puck-shaped and can be used to interact with Microsoft products in a truly unique way. Users can place the dial on the Surface Studio’s screen and use a radial menu by twisting the device. For instance, artists can use this to easily choose between different colours, making it somewhat like an electronic palette.

Working with the Dial will feel familiar, since Microsoft is using haptic feedback to communicate the different options as it clicks through.

The company has also noted that it won’t be exclusive to the Surface Studio. The Dial is set to be compatible with the Surface Pro 3, Surface pro 4 and Surface Book.

The Surface Dial available for pre-order today in the U.S. for a $99 estimated retail price and will be released in the United States on November 10th. There is no word yet on Canadian pricing and availability but we’ll update this story when we know more.
