Kobo expects stock shortages for Aura One e-reader due to high demand

Apparently going big pays off, at least for Rakuten Kobo.

The Canadian e-reader manufacturer’s recently-released $250 Kobo Aura One, which features a massive 7.8-inch display, has been “selling at a blistering pace in Canada,” according to a release from the company.

The company says that due to this high demand, stock will run-out in various locations across Canada through September. It also notes that Indigo, which is the exclusive Canadian retailer until September 29th (after which point Best Buy is set to join in) will continue to add more stock weekly in an attempt to keep up, while also directing customers to order online.

“The Kobo Aura ONE has clearly tapped into a pent-up demand for advanced features no other device on the market offers,” said Michael Tamblyn, CEO of Rakuten Kobo.

“When we created Kobo Aura ONE, we knew that a subset of our most passionate readers would be interested in a premium device with improved waterproofing, a bigger screen, and a blue-light reducing technology. However, it’s safe to say that the enthusiasm we are seeing for Aura ONE has happily surpassed expectations.”
