Square rolls out Register API for Android

After announcing Build it with Square last month, which included a Register API for iOS, Square has gone on to release a Register API for Android.

Build it with Square consists of a series of APIs available to the sellers and developers working with Square. It allows merchants to use Square payment services while maintaining a customized point of sale experience.

Nearly a month later, Square has come out with a Register API for Android, which offers many of the same services and allows developers to further build out their mobile payments platform. As was the Register API for iOS, the Android version is available in Canada and the U.S.

A Register API is a platform that allows merchants to build payment applications for their businesses by integrating just a few lines of code.

While Square’s Register API for iOS is compatible with both web and native apps, the company’s equivalent for Android works only with native apps.

Since merchants’ applications don’t handle any payments information themselves, the need to comply with payment card industry standards becomes a non-issue.

Square states it will continue to build out its e-commerce platform as the company grows. Currently, the company has offices in the U.S., Canada, Japan and Australia.
