MotoMods, modular backplates for the rumoured Moto Z, revealed in latest leak

While we know the mid-range Moto G4 Plus and Moto Play are are set to come to Canada this summer, little is known about Motorola’s upcoming flagship offerings. The company’s new flagship smartphones, rumoured to be called the Moto Z Style and Moto Z Play, are expected to be unveiled during Lenovo Tech World on June 9th.

According to previous rumours, these two Android-powered Marshmallow devices will feature a 5.5-inch displays and a focus on modular features. Following LG’s footsteps, the new Moto devices will reportedly feature removable modular backplates known as MotoMods.

Reputable device leaker Evan Blass posted a picture of the accessories that are expected to be unveiled on June 9th. The image shows three backplates that seem to highlight a projector, JBL speakers, and Hasselblad camera.

Unfortunately, there is no indication of price point of Motorola’s rumoured MotoMod accessories.

MotoMods

Lenovo is reportedly retiring the Moto X brand in favour of the Moto Z name. The Moto Z Style will run Marshmallow and powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor, 32GB of internal storage, 3GB RAM, 13 megapixel camera, and a 2600mAh battery.

The Moto Z Play sports a Snapdragon 625 processor, 16GB/32GB of internal storage, 16 megapixel camera with a 3500mAh battery.
