Man sets world record by spending 25 hours using the HTC Vive

This guy certainly took the blue pill.

In order to set an official Guinness World Record for the most time spent in virtual reality while playing a game, one man spent 25 hours wearing HTC’s Vive headset.

Filmaker Derek Westerman and a team of producers set up a living room in a Los Angeles apartment for the record setting virtual reality session. While wearing a suit and tie (of course he was), Westerman played a Google-developed virtual reality experience called Tilt Brush, a painting game that puts the player inside their art, for the entire 25 hours.

The marathon virtual reality session was not without issues though. During the 17th hour of the record breaking attempt, Westerman suffered from vertigo and vomited into a bucket. He also urinated into the same bucket, while still wearing the headset, at around the 6th hour mark.

By the 21st hour, Westerman babbled incoherently while waving the Vive controllers, exclaiming that “I don’t know where I’m at…”

While a moderately impressive feat, it likely will only be a few weeks before someone breaks Westerman’s record, likely while playing a traditional video game in virtual reality, rather than a more active experience like Tilt Brush.

Guinness marks the record as being achieved on April 7th.
