Microsoft was expected to begin the rollout of Windows 10 Mobile to older Windows Phone devices in late February. Unfortunately, we’re well past that time now.
According to the latest report from VentureBeat, courtesy of Evan Blass, the company is now planning to start rolling out the update sometime this month.
Blass notes that Microsoft will first push out one of its monthly firmware updates to the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, and then slowly begin the rollout of Windows 10 Mobile to older devices. For the time being, it looks like Microsoft will take a more passive approach to pushing out the new OS to users. Blass notes Windows Phone owners will need to tell their phone to grab the update; it won’t be automatically pushed to their phone.
“Only afterwards, on an unspecified timetable, will the company begin actively pushing the new firmware to eligible devices,” says the noted leaker.
There is no indication yet as to which devices will get the update in Canada, though Microsoft previously hinted the Lumia 635, 640, 640 XL and 735 are good candidates.
