Google Canada moving into new development office in Kitchener this Thursday

A year ago, Google Canada announced plans to expand its operations in the Kitchener-Waterloo area to accommodate the company’s rapidly growing engineering and development team.

Google first opened an office in Kitchener-Waterloo in 2005 and currently occupies space in the Tannery building in Kitchener, where Desire2Learn and Communitech also reside. In the coming days, it will officially move into the Breithaupt Block at King street.

The 185,000 square-foot office will officially be unveiled on Thursday, housing over 350 engineers working on various Google initiatives.

According to a report in the Globe and Mail, Google is planning to show off new virtual reality technology – hopefully something more than Cardboard – and other locally made products.
