Final Fantasy IX is coming to mobile

The Final Fantasy franchise has always been a divisive series. Some, like myself, cite FF VI as their favourite, while others insist the incredibly popular FF VII is the best in the franchise. Then there is the vocal group who feel Final Fantasy IX, the last Final Fantasy game released on Sony’s original PlayStation, is the best the series has to offer.

Final Fantasy IX fans will be pleased to hear that Square Enix has plans to bring the game to PC and smartphones at some point in 2016. A North American release has not been announced yet, but it’s safe to assume that the game will make its way here because all past Final Fantasy mobile ports have received U.S. releases.

It’s still unclear how much Square Enix plans to charge for the game, but given the premium price tag the company attaches to its previous Final Fantasy rereleases, it will likely fall somewhere in the $12 to $20 range.

The screenshots released so far of Final Fantasy VI show off a sharpened, higher-resolution polygonal visuals. It looks like Square Enix has opted to stick with the game’s original art style and has no plans to alter Final Fantasy IX’s graphics like it did with Final Fantasy VI’s mobile release.

Final Fantasy IX is set to be released for iOS, Android and PC.

Ah yes SquareEnix. With your horrible mobile ports and outright embarrassing Android-emulator-to-PC port of FF6.

Please guys, do not reward them with your bucks on shoddy, lazy ports that they couldn’t be bothered to spend some real effort on.

Take one look at the horrible quality of the FF6 port and this does not bode well for anything beyond it.

It looks like all they did was add AA and make it render at a higher frame rate. Though, I’m still waiting on reviews to see if they do any micro transaction nonsense, or other BS.
So yeah, I want it to be worth my money, but I’m skeptical.

    • Their Final Fantasy 7 port was pretty solid. I don’t expect to see anything micro-transaction related in the game.

Aside from the actual movement of the characters the games themselves are all fairly well done.. As someone who owns all of them I must say I actually enjoyed the sprite changes and what not for FF6

Why argue over which one is the best when it’s easier to say they are all terrible?

lol. I’m not a fan of the series either. I’m not a fan of any RPG

I have to say this is a great news, IX was a masterpiece 🙂

    • That’s what a lot of people have told me. Maybe it’s time I finally check out IX. VI has always been my favourite.

Sorry, I didn’t see your reply before! I would say the Shakespearean feel to it, plus the great visual effects and the characters makes it a story to remember. I hope you like it if you do try it! 🙂

See that, Sega? Some companies release their old classics on mobile. Where is my goddamn Phantasy Star 1-4 remastered???
