New Shazam update adds improved search and song recognition

You’re sitting in the car and you hear a song that catches your attention, but aren’t exactly sure what it’s called or who it’s by. While some of us probably don’t want to admit it, we’ve all used Shazam at some point to solve this exact problem.

With the press of a single on-screen button, Shazam users are able to learn exactly what song and artist is playing at any given time. But what seemed like magic a decade ago isn’t as impressive as it once was. To combat this perception Shazam has added a few new features to its platform.

Shazam boasts that it now features faster song recognition and a more prominently placed search option now located in the app’s home page. Text search allows people to locate specific songs, artists, album names and even lyrics. Users are also now directed to a link that allows them to stream or download the song they’re searching for.

Verified Artists have also been added to Shazam, giving users a window into the kind of music their favourite musicians are discovering and listening to. The company says over 600 verified artists are included in its platform.

As a side note, Shazam has been around since 2002, making it one of the few apps to successfully adapt to the constantly shifting mobile landscape. Shazam reports that it has more than 120 million active users.

Shazam is available on iOS and Android.
