OPP hits the road with Operation Impact, asks you not to be a turkey while driving

The annual plea from the Ontario Provincial Police to not drink and drive or use your mobile device while driving, has returned in 2015 with “Operation Impact.”

Effective today through the end of Monday, Operation Impact will see the OPP on the lookout for drivers disobeying the “big four” — speeding, aggressive driving, distracted driving, impaired driving and failing to wear a seatbelt.

“Drivers and passengers must be mindful of the critical role they play in changing dangerous driving behaviours,” said OPP Deputy Comm. Brad Blair in a statement.

York Regional Police created a “recipe for disaster” infographic highlighting each major infraction. Specifically for distracted driving, the image states, “a potent recipe for holiday disaster includes an unhealthy dose of distracted driving. Texting and driving is growing increasingly more popular, but can be substituted with cosmetic application, child care, social media use, selfie-taking and dining!”
