GoPro’s new $200 action camera is able to record 1080p video at 60fps

GoPro Hero+

GoPro today announced Hero+, a new entry in its family of action cameras. $100 cheaper than the recently announced $299 USD Hero4 Session, GoPro is positioning Hero+ as the perfect entry-level device for those new to extreme-action videography.

For the price, you get a camera that is able to record both 1080p and 720p footage at 60 frames per second, as well as capture 8-megapixel stills. It also includes WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, allowing Hero+ to connect to the GoPro mobile app and the company’s $79 USD Smart Remote accessory — both of which allow the user to operate the device remotely. All this in a package that weighs 122 grams and is waterproof up to a depth of 40m

Missing from more expensive GoPro cameras is the ability to capture 4K video. Likewise, the Hero+ doesn’t include a touchscreen display, nor does it have a dual microphones set up. The absence of the latter feature is likely to dissuade some of the more experienced action videographers out there from purchasing this device, but for everyone else, the Hero+ looks like a decent way to capture one’s adventures without breaking the bank.

The Hero+ will be available in Canada on October 4. Visit GoPro’s website for more information.
