Alcatel OneTouch announces life proof Go Play and Casio G-Shock lookalike Go Watch

Alcatel Go Play

With the sun about to set on IFA, French turned Chinese smartphone manufacturer Alcatel OneTouch announced the Go Play, an affordable smartphone aimed at adventurous young adults.

It’s a modest phone that comes with a 5-inch 1280 x 720 display, a 1.2GHz quad-core processor (likely a Snapdragon 210 or 410), 8GB of internal storage (expandable up to an additional 32GB with a microSD card), 1GB of RAM and Android Lollipop.

Not the most inspiring specifications to grace an Android smartphone in the last little while, but the Go Play does have a couple of things going for it, including a IP67 certified case that’s waterproof, shockproof and dustproof. Moreover, while it only has a 8 megapixel main camera, the Go Play’s camera is actually operable underwater. The company also says the Go Play’s 2500mAh battery can last 20 days on standby, and provide enough juice for 8.3 hours of continuous talk time or 55 hours of continuous music playback.

In a cute piece of marketing, Alcatel also says the Go Play can “record cool stuff playing on youmobile screen and add a voiceover,” which is to say it comes preloaded with Periscope, Vine and Zello, reinforcing the fact that this life proof smartphone is designed for young adults on a budget.

Alcatel Go Watch

Alcatel is also releasing a less handsome smartwatch to go along with the Go Play called Go Watch. Reminiscent of a Casio G-Shock, the Go Watch features a 1.22-inch 240 x 240 IPS display and a 180MHz Cortex-M4 processor. Like its smartphone sibling, it is IP67 certified.

In terms of functionality, the Go Watch is compatible with both Android and iOS. It can also push weather, SMS, email, social network and call notifications.

In a bit of Apple Watch-inspired functionality, pressing the large “Go” button will use the watch’s onboard heart rate sensor, gyroscope and accelerometer to create a visualization of one’s emotional state. This graph can be either be set as the user’s wallpaper or shared via Facebook or other social networks.

While it’s unclear whether the Go Play or Go Watch will come to Canada, but the company says it is not releasing any additional information regarding pricing or Canadian availability for the Go Play or Go Watch at this time.
