Videotron now has over 700,000 wireless subscribers

Videotron, the telecommunications arm of Quebec-based media giant, Quebecor, posted its numbers for Q2 2015 today. The carrier added 40,800 new wireless customers, an increase of 6.2 per cent over the same period last year, which brought its total subscriber base to over 700,000 customers.

Consolidated revenues for its entire business were $960.9 million, up $67.9 million when compared to Q2 2014. In terms of the company’s mobile revenues, they rose to $29.5 million, which represents a 44.2 per cent jump over last year. Videotron’s average revenue per user (ARPU) rose $5.69 to $47.03, an increase of 13.8 per cent.

Coming off the quarter, Videotron secured 18 licences in the 2500 MHz auction for $187 million. This spectrum covers all of Quebec and includes reach in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver.

Pierre Dion, president and CEO of Quebecor, stated the company “is now well equipped to develop its Québec network in the coming years” and will use the 2500 MHz, AWS‑3, and 700 MHz spectrum licences in a “a prudent, disciplined approach in order to maximize returns while minimizing risk.”
