Apple pulls Nest thermostat from its stores, promotes Canadian-made Ecobee3 instead

Nest

If you were planning to purchase a Nest Thermostat from Apple, you’ve missed your chance.

The Cupertino-based company has pulled the smart thermostat from both its online store and physical retail locations. Moreover, not only is the Nest no longer listed on the company’s online store, searching for it now brings back devices like the Canadian-made Ecobee3.

It’s likely the company removed Nest’s offering because it does not integrate with HomeKit, Apple’s home automation platform.

As 9to5Mac notes, this isn’t the first time Apple has stopped selling a product that competes with one of its own offerings. Prior to the release of the Apple Watch, the company stopped offering products from FitBit, Jawbone and Nike. While both Jawbone and Nike eventually saw their wearables return to Apple’s online store and its retail locations, it’s still not possible to buy one of FitBit’s bands through Apple.

Nest, ironically, was founded by former Apple engineers Tony Fadell and Matt Rogers.
