Microsoft has announced the global availability of Windows 10, with the official date scheduled for July 29th.
Microsoft’s Terry Myerson and Joe Belfiore both shared the news on its company blog and Twitter, noting that testing has been conducted with over four million early Windows Insiders and the company has “made great progress on Windows 10 and we’re nearly ready to deliver this free upgrade to all of our Windows customers.”
The rollout will first arrive for PC and tablets users. As previously reported, Windows 10 for phones will arrive months later. Belfiore stated last month, that “from the device view, our main focus is to kick off the Windows 10 launch wave with a great launch on the PC. You should expect that the other devices — phone, HoloLens, Xbox, Surface Hub — will be staggered.”
As for features, Windows 10 brings back the Start Menu and introduces Microsoft’s Edge browser (replaces Internet Explorer). In addition, Cortana is now present, Office 2016 will be for free for all, and there are also new Photos, Videos, Music, Maps, People, Mail and Calendar apps.
Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for those running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 (eventually Windows Phone 8.1 devices) and users should see a notification in your task bar that will lead you towards a reservation page.
