Videotron continues growth path in Q1 on strong LTE adoption

Videotron

Quebec media giant, Quebecor, announced during its Q1 2015 earnings that Videotron, its telecommunications arm, added 29,300 subscribers to its mobile division in the three months ending March 31st. This brings the subscriber base to nearly 660,000 users.

Videotron’s ARPU increased 15% over the previous quarter a year ago to just over $47, on strong data uptake from its newly-launched LTE network.

Manon Brouillette, President and Chief Executive Officer of Videotron, noted, “This success stems from our optimal combination of plans, mobile content and devices on our ultra-powerful network, an LTE network that covers nearly 90% of Québec’s population and supports speeds of up to 150 Mbps.”

The company also announced that its Club illico video subscription service, continues to grow, adding 117,000 customers in the previous 12 months. The company did not disclose exact subscription numbers for illico.

Earlier this week, Quebecor commented on the CRTC’s decision to begin regulating wholesale wireless services in Canada, noting it “welcomed the move to regulate roaming rates as a step in the right direction.”

“Quebecor intends to actively participate in the regulatory process established by the CRTC and hopes that it will be completed quickly. The final rates set by the CRTC will be decisively important for the viability of genuine competition.

“Quebecor is pleased to note that the CRTC decision favours mobile carriers that invest in their own state-of-the-art facilities for the benefit of Canadian consumers. Through its Videotron subsidiary, Quebecor has invested more than $2 billion in its mobile network since 2008 and created thousands of good jobs,” the note said.
