Videotron announced today that it will start providing its customers with extended coverage starting on May 13. This makes the Quebec-based company the latest Canadian carrier to give its customers the ability to freely talk, text and use data while traveling across Canada.
Videotron, who has a network sharing agreement with Rogers, notes that its customers can now “travel the country worry free and at no additional cost.” To gain access to this freedom, Videotron customers will have to sign up for the company’s all-inclusive Canada plans, which start at $31.95/month.
Manon Brouillette, CEO and president of Videotron, said in a statement, “I am very pleased that in less than five years we have shaken things up in the Canadian marketplace, to the benefit of consumers across the country.”
Reducing domestic roaming costs has been on the government’s agenda since last year. The CRTC recently banned all Canadian carriers from adding exclusivity clauses to their domestic roaming agreements, stating in its July 31st report that “exclusivity clauses in current wholesale roaming agreements between Canadian carriers are therefore rendered inapplicable as of the date of this decision.”
