On Monday, select BlackBerry users got a sneak preview of the company’s upcoming update to its smartphone OS.
A preview build of 10.3.2.281 was seeded to users in the BlackBerry’s 10.3 beta program. As is usually the case with these things, the update was later uploaded to various websites, and the fine folks over at the CrackBerry forums compiled a comprehensive list of changes and new features.
Some of the more interesting changes include improvements to the Hub; the addition of a private browsing mode to the OS’s web browser; and the introduction of BlackBerry Protect, a feature that allows the user to remotely wipe, lock and recover their device. Perhaps best of all, however, is the fact that there’s a new lock screen animation.
Of course, as with any update, a host of bugs were introduced that need to be ironed out before the update’s final release. One issue that multiple users are reporting is that the new OS version can take an especially long time to boot up. In some instances, people have said that they’ve waited up to 10 minutes for their smartphone to become usable.
The update appears to be available for most BlackBerry 10 devices, including the Passport, Classic, Z30, Z10 and Q10. Check out the CrackBerry website for a full list of changes and bugs.
