Samsung Galaxy S6 Active rumoured to have a bigger battery than the Note 4

Galaxy S6 hands-on

We’ve already heard some rumours about Samsung’s plans for a rugged version of the Galaxy S6 and here are some more to help you ring in the weekend.

SamMobile cites sources that say the device actually won’t be the 5.5 inches we heard earlier this week. Instead, these insiders say that the phone will feature the same 5.1-inch QHD AMOLED+ display we saw on the Galaxy S6 when we went hands on with the device last week. In line with the rumours from earlier this week, SamMobile reports that the guts of the device will be more or less the same as the already official Galaxy S6 and S6 edge.

So what’s different? Though we still don’t have any information on how Samsung plans to ruggedize this metal and glass phone, we do know that the process will make the phone larger. Rumour has it the rugged version will see the size go from 70.5mm x 143.4mm to 73.6mm x 146.9mm. The phone will also be thicker at 8.8mm (versus the 6.8mm max width of the S6 and S6 edge).

We also know that the battery will be significantly larger. Samsung gave the S6 edge a battery that was 50mAh bigger than the cell powering the regular S6 but the S6 Active will reportedly pack a 3500mAh. That’s a whole 1000mAh more than the vanilla Galaxy S6. It’s also a few hundred milliampere-hours more than the Note 4 and the Nexus 6, both of which pack a 3220mAh batteries.

No word on when this device will be announced, but as we pointed out earlier this week, it’ll probably be months before Canada gets it anyway.
