Microsoft selling more Lumias than ever, but they’re mostly cheap devices

Microsoft beat the street this afternoon with its Q2 2015 earnings, reporting $0.71 earnings per share (EPS) on revenue of $26.47 billion.

The company’s Devices and Consumer division, which encompasses Surface, Office, Bing search, Windows and Lumia, reported an 8% increase to $12.9 billion, with $1.1 billion from the Surface division.

Microsoft sold 10.5 million Lumia devices, an increase of 1.2 million from the previous quarter, “driven by growth in affordable smartphones,” according to the vendor. The division earned just over $2.2 billion in revenue, though the company did not break down which devices sold the most. We do know that the low-end Lumias, like the 520, 530 and 620, are the best-selling in the company’s portfolio.

While Microsoft’s Lumia line has been relatively quiet recently, the company promised a high-end Windows 10 device for later this year, and said that most, but not all, Windows 8.1-based smartphones would eventually receive Windows 10.
