OnePlus sold close to one million smartphones in 2014, says next generation device will arrive in six months

OnePlus came close to hitting its target of selling one million smartphones in 2014. According to a report in PC World, OnePlus CEO Carl Pei said the company “sold close to 1 million units of its first flagship phone,” the OnePlus One.

While the company floundered on several marketing initiatives, Pei noted, “We basically weren’t prepared for what happened. We thought that all our demand would be in China the first year.” The demand spread worldwide, including Canada, and those interested in the scoring the device had to acquire an invitation to purchase.

Looking into a OnePlus One successor, which is rumoured to be called the OnePlus Two, is expected to launch in the next six months, said Pei. The company is also developing another smartphone that is “going to be a phone catering to a different type of audience. Perhaps for those who appreciate design over specs.” OnePlus also shot down any rumours of a tablet being released under its name in the imminent future.

OnePlus wrote on a year-end summary on its blog saying, “We try not to spend too much time celebrating our successes, as focusing on praise doesn’t push us to be greater. Instead, we spend our time thinking about roadblocks and how to overcome them. We ask you to Never Settle, and that applies to us as well. We wouldn’t have it any other way.”
