Core wireless speaker named Canada’s most funded campaign of all time by Indiegogo

Toronto-based Mass Fidelity launched the Indiegogo campaign for its Core wireless speaker in September. Just a couple of months later, the company has secured the title of most funded campaign of all time in Canada. Indiegogo this week revealed its top campaigns for Canada, and the Core snagged the number one spot with its $1,170,448 of funds raised.

The Core wireless speaker is supposed to replace your soundbar and uses audio-processing technology to mimic a sound image that seems as though it’s coming from multiple speakers as opposed to just a single unit. It’s probably best suited to home theatre setups but it can be used as a portable speaker thanks to a built-in battery that apparently lasts for 12 hours. It reached its funding goal of $48,000 in just one day.

“2014 has been a whirlwind year for Indiegogo in Canada, with dozens of highlights to celebrate,” said Slava Rubin, CEO, Indiegogo. “We feel incredibly lucky to work with so many inspiring, talented individuals. It’s a thrill to watch communities come together in support of each other’s projects, effectively driving change via Indiegogo.”

In second place right behind the Core is aerial photography drone Plexidrone, which raised $1,009,041. Plexidrone is the work of another Toronto-based company, DreamQii, It’s the company’s first product and facilitates aerial photography using your GoPro Hero, Sony ActionCam, BublCam, or other point-and-shoot  camera. Wearables, one of the hottest tech trends of the year, also got a shout out in the form of FuelWear, a heated base layer created by UofT engineering students.

Indiegogo didn’t provide information on how much Canadians pledged over the course of 2014. We’ve reached out to see if this information is available.
