Kik adds support for keywords with Promoted Chats

Kik Messenger has announced an update to the Promoted Chats feature that it announced this past summer. Promoted Chats allows Kik users to interact with brands. Users engage with their favourite companies voluntarily and those companies can then respond with pictures and video. Today’s update makes this feature a bit more personal by using keywords to improve the accuracy of responses.

Brands using Kik Promoted Chats will now be able to respond to chats from users based on the keywords in each user’s message. This will address the issue of users getting fed generic messages that don’t necessarily match the message they sent to the brand in the first place. It will also ease the pressure on brands to push unique but broadly appealing content to Kik users.

Some of our top brands using Promoted Chats have hundreds of thousands of people chatting with them, and manually replying to each message would be impossible,” Kik explained. “Our Keywords feature lets brands create responses even before a question is asked!”

The idea is that companies can set up responses to certain questions (about pricing on a specific product, directions, or availability) ahead of time and shoot them off in response to users when they ask questions containing the right keywords. Waterloo-based Kik currently has 25 brands chatting with customers on Kik and sending pictures, video, special offers and other content. So far, 6.5 million of its 150 million users have used Promoted Chats.
