Google updates Google+ with Material Design goodness

We still don’t know what Android L will officially be called, so we can’t tell you that Google’s latest update to the Google+ applicaiton adds a Lollipop or lemon drop flavour to the company’s social networking app. Instead, we’ll have to stick to the name of the design language itself, which is Material Design.

Today’s update brings Google+ up to version 4.6 and adds a bolder, and overall simplified aesthetic with a red accent theme. If you hated the boldness of the green in the new version of Hangouts, you might also be taken aback by the new version Google+. However, the red trim isn’t as abundant in the G+ app as the green is in Hangouts+, so it could be worse.

Aside from the cosmetic makeover, Google+ users are also getting some additional functionality out of the app. Google has added the ability to cast a slideshow of photos, videos and links shared to your stream, directly on your TV, as well as the ability to edit Auto Awesome Movies on these devices:
