Apple has released an update for its devices to add HealthKit app support and to fix a number of lingering bugs from iOS 8, which was released September 17th.

iOS 8.0.1 has the following updates:

  • Fixes a bug so HealthKit apps can now be made available on the App Store
  • Addresses an issue where 3rd party keyboards could become deselected when a user enters their passcode
  • Fixes an issue that prevented some apps from accessing photos from the Photo Library
  • Improves the reliability of the Reachability feature on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
  • Fixes an issue that could cause unexpected cellular data usage when receiving SMS/MMS messages
  • Better support of Ask To Buy for Family Sharing for In-App Purchases
  • Fixes an issue where ringtones were sometimes not restored from iCloud backups
  • Fixes a bug that prevented uploading photos and videos from Safari

We’re hearing, though, that the update has created problems for many iPhone users, affecting their ability to connect to a cellular network. iPhone 6 users are also reporting issues with Touch ID.

We’ve reached out to Apple and are waiting to hear back, but in the meantime hold off on pressing that “Update” button.

Update: An update on an update: Apple has pulled iOS 8.0.1, both in OTA and regular IPSW download form, in order to fix the cellular reception and Touch ID issues found on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Stay tuned for when it returns.

Apple said in a statement to us, “We have received reports of an issue with the iOS 8.0.1 update. We are actively investigating these reports and will provide information as quickly as we can. In the meantime we have pulled back the iOS 8.0.1 update.”

Update #2: Apple noted in an email to us that they have a solution for those impacted by loss of cell service. In addition, iOS 8.0.2 will be available “in the next few days.”

“We have a workaround for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users who lost cellular service and Touch ID functionality today after updating to iOS 8.0.1. Affected users can reinstall iOS 8 through iTunes, for more information visit http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6487. We apologize for the great inconvenience experienced by users, and are working around the clock to prepare iOS 8.0.2 with a fix for the issue, and will release it as soon as it is ready in the next few days.”

Do not update your OS with this patch!!!!

It pretty much turns your phone into an iPod touch.

    • JB

The original IOS8 update was causing massive wifi issues for many…..but iDan didnt report it.

    • Guest

      oops, my bad

    • Marc Palumbo

MobileSyrup at it again! It’s absolutely disgusting what Apple is doing. Defective hardware, terrible OS updates

    • PT

      “Defective hardware” ?

Did you mean a bent iphone?
No! That’s no defective, no sorry.
As Apple always said “This change everything. Again”
@-SAMSUNG: Don’t try to copy this invention as we already had a patent for this “Bent as you go” phone. LOL!

    • Buzz88

He can’t give apple any bad reviews or his free devices and trips to California for launch events along with free booze and food go up in smoke. The tech media is bought and paid for.

  • Buzz88

Another f****d up OS release from apple… maybe they should spend a little of that $150B they’re holding off shore to hire some developers who know what the hëll they’re doing.

    • JB

No no no no…didnt u hear Daniel bader of Mobilesyrup gave it 9 out of 10.

But its not his fault your wifi sucks…..its just HIS opinion.

    • barrist

I think Dan’s gonna need a restraining order soon..

      getting creepy

    • cartfan88

iOS 8.0.1 “not so subtle charms”? Or iOS 7.1.2 “ftw”

  • JB

What you giving IOS8.0.1 Dan? 12/10?

    • FlamesFan89

You might want to tone it down a bit. It’s getting old. I don’t disagree that Dan’s review often read with a healthy dose of bias, but the constant remarks just make you look trollish. Like you are begging for the usual suspects to come and sling insults.

    • It’s Me

Unfortunately, the usual suspect is tied up with some work.

  • Claude Gohier

Now I understand why Google is doing staged rollouts of updates.

  • Felipe

Mine is a 5S and it’s working just fine with the update. SwiftKey is not even crashing anymore.

    • jroc

The issue is only present on the 6 and 6+

    • Felipe

      Ooops, my bad

    • Stuntman06

How is it in landscape? I normally type in landscape and there were massive bugs with SwiftKey that makes it impossible to use in landscape.

  • sebacote

No problem with my update! iPhone 5 16Gb with Rogers

    • neo905

Problem is with 6 and 6+.

    • PT

Did you get the lastest update? 4.4.4 KitKat

  • Dude…

    s**t… my 1350$ its now a friky expensive iPod touch… mpfpffffffff……

  • Super_Deluxe

Apple’s quality control died with Steve Jobs, no disrespect to Steve Jobs of course. I don’t know how they missed such a major bug, it’s like they fix the code and push it to devices without testing it. Good job Apple.

  • Dude…

frikin… my 1350$ iP6+ is now a brand new iPod touch yyyhaaaahh

    • Marc Palumbo

Don’t know why you spent that much on a phone. You could have bought 2 top quality tablets for that much! Or a Surface Pro 3. Geezus

    • Dude…

What do hell do you want me to do with 2x tablets ? one on each ear?

    • Marc Palumbo

You just proved to me and the readers how bad of a choice it is to buy a iPhone 6+.

      Thanks.

    • Dude…

And you need me to prove that ?!! You give me too much importance…

    • Marc Palumbo

      Waste of money…

    • Dude…

Do you define yourself as a troll?

    • Marc Palumbo

Not a troll at all… It’s all over the news. People pay a premium price for what is supposed to be a premium product. This is not what they are getting in return. But people like you will never admit that

    • Dude…

      Don’t go there… dude… i tell you..
Forget Apple and forget the iPhone, it’s the best thing you can do for your life…

    • Marc Palumbo

Aiiii no win with you. Keep on defending Apple. You iSheep will continue to walk the land

    • Dude…

I’m not arguing! just giving my opinion! BTW i have also an HTC One and had pretty much every top tier device in the last few years… so i think you are the dead head fandroid of this world..

    • Marc Palumbo

Not even a fandroid. The only Android product I own is a Galaxy Tab 2, and not the 10 inch one. The only reason why I have it is because it was $130 and that I can use it when I travel and not have to worry that if I lose it, it won’t hurt as much. This just started because you spent $1350 on a freaking smartphone and you made fun of me when I suggested that you could have used that money on 2 high end tablets. I didn’t tell you to trade in your phone for that. I just pointed out how you cannot justify that amount of money on a defective product. So now you run around and call me a troll. Dude, do yourself a favour and go to school and learn about personal finance.

    • Dude…

Aww.. why should i buy a BMW 3 Series when i can buy 2x Hyundai for the same price… i mean, if i have an accident, i can leave the car on the street and pick the other one, no care…
Dude… i would like to argue with you.. but don’t forget to switch the toggle behind your brain and come with good stuff to argument..
And anyway… because it’s Apple, there is no argument … everything Apple do, it’s Amazing, Crazy and gorgeous…

    • Marc Palumbo

so amazing, it doesn’t even work. What’s the point of owning a BMW if you’ll never be able to drive it and always having to bring it to repairs? You can’t argue because your arguments are ignorant. But hey, ur rich enough that you shouldn’t be complaining about $1300. You should just delete your original comment and post, “I love this phone”. Actually, that would have made more sense 🙂

    • Dude…

If you read correctly, i was happy to have a brand new iPod touch … what’s wrong with you people?
BTW.. because you own a tablet and because having a tablet is a trend… this make you also a sheep… just a cheap sheep..

    • Marc Palumbo

I told you I own a Galaxy Tab 2. I never told you what else I own. You read that as all I have, but that’s not the case. This was because you called me a fandroid. I also own a Surface and a Dell XPS 8700. I am not cheap.

    • Dude…

      Owning a Surface… RI-DI-CULOUS!!!

    • Marc Palumbo

You have no idea what you’re talking about. I am also a developer as well as a consumer. You sir, have nothing else to do. Go for a walk on Tachereau

    • Dude…

AWww..pardon me… YOU are a Developer…are you saying that you are better than me? i mean… why would you take it personally? And why are you so made about the bent gate… ? do your parents bended you over when you was young?

    • Marc Palumbo

I’m not mad about bent gate. People just don’t see why Apple consumers party so much for defective products. I guess my comments have made you butthurt

    • Dude…

You must have a problem with your social class.. i never spoke about my profession or about my spending habits… if you need attention.. do yourself a favour.. go to visit a therapist !

    • Marc Palumbo

You did mention your spending habits… 1350 for an iPhone… Terrible spending habits

    • Dude…

in the context of a crazy expensive phone… BTW what is worst? Spending 1350$ buying cheap thing around and who never want to buy or.. 1350$ on something you can sell in two year 1200$ ?

    • VLAN

You can get flight tickets from Europe and back for that much.

    • jroc

You can also get 1,350 bottles of water from a hotdog vendor…what’s your point? Why do you care how he spends his money?

    • VLAN

      Well that escalated quickly.

First of all which hot dog vendor do you eat at that carries 1350 bottles of water?

He said “What do hell do you want me to do with 2x tablets ? one on each ear?”. So I put it in terms that would tempt anyone as a light comment. No disrespect or hostility aimed at anyone. Untill some jock named Jroc’s feelings got hurt that I said something to someone else and he could keep his either :1- apple loving or 2- trolling (or both) nose out of it.

Now if you excuse me I have to locate this hot dog vendor ive heard of as im in sudden need of 1,350 bottles of water.

    • jroc

You pointed out that you could get tickets to Europe for $1,350…I was simply pointing out something else you could get. I don’t see how I was defending Apple or trolling anymore than you were with your comment.

    • VLAN

Its all cool. Like I said I was just making light of the comment. No harm done. I recently took a trip to Europe and that nearly what I got the tickets for so that’s why that popped up in my mind.

    • jroc

As did I, and you’re correct about the cost. Apologies if I came across as a d!ck.

    • PT

Buy one get one free? You’re lucky!

  • msb77

It’s not only simple TouchID issues, your kids can buy stuff with it I’ve just read…once again…and still no bendgate talk. How come people don’t complain about that since it’s a major issue?

  • beyond

PSYCHE! Apple just faked out its uses yet again lol

  • Dimitri

With my S5 i got full bars everywhere and when connected to WiFi the device loaded pages fast. With the 6+ i get 2-3 bars and on WiFi into barely fast. Hopefully Apple fixes this. I thought it was the sim card and changed it for another one but reading around its a known issue.

    • ikr

What does SIM card have anything to do with Wi-Fi?

    • Dimitri

I should have clarified that I did that for the Rogers signal and bars. WiFi i thought it was the router but noticed it did the same at Most places I used WiFi.

  • mico

    still better than BB

    • Dimitri

Another troll. Don’t u have anything better to do?

  • Colin V

Maybe the carriers should re-take control of Apple updates instead of letting them break their customers phones.

    • Dimitri

Unfortunately that will never happen as Apple has made the carriers sign a agreement that only Apple can push out updates and carriers can’t do much.

    • Colin V

iOS/iPhone popularity is way down since that was in place, doubt Apple has the clout they once did, especially considering how much they have been having issues with reliable software lately.

    • It’s Me

Ummm, Colin, it’s always been like that. The carriers have never had control of apple updates.

  • Tmack

It’s too bad iPhone users can’t even count on the software updates provided by their phone manufacturer. That’s 2 broken updates with the launch of iOS8.

    • jroc

Considering that this is the first update, not sure how that makes any sense. Enlighten us please!

    • Tmack

iOS 8 itself was an update for anyone not using an iphone 6/+ thus 2 lol

    • barrist

how was the initial release broken?

  • MXH070

Ahhahahahahaha. Apple fails twice in 5 days ….. iphone 6+ apples first wanta be flip phone and ios 8 is garbage

    • barrist

Yet will still continue to outsell most other platform phones multiple times over. They’ll be fine.

  • 5Gs

They still sold millions of devices. Bravo to apple marketing strategy.

  • benditapple

I heard the next update will unbend the phones and fix the wave app so that you can continue to wireless charge the phone via microwave oven!

  • Eli_Vance

If any other company released such a bad update we would see the mainstream tech media writing much more scathing, or mocking editorials.
