Misfit announces Misfit Flash sleep and activity monitor for $50

Wearable fever continues this week with the unveiling of a brand new device from Misfit, the maker of the Misfit Shine. Dubbed the Misfit Flash, this device is billed as an easy-to-use fitness and sleep monitor for just fifty bucks.

Similar to the Shine, the Flash is available in a variety of colours and doesn’t need to be charged (the Shine relies on a long-lasting battery that requires replacing after several months). It’s capable of tracking sleep and fitness, is compatible with both Android and iOS, and looks very similar to the Shine.

However, for the Flash, Misfit has gone with soft touch plastic instead of the aircraft grade aluminum used in the production of the Shine. Misfit has also made the front of the device a button, so users don’t have to tap repeatedly for the time, they can just click instead. The Flash is waterproof up to 30 meters, which is a little less than the Shine (50 metres), but not too shabby for a $50 activity monitor.

The Flash will ship in October in the United States and will be available through Best Buy, Target, Amazon, and Walmart. Misfit has promised worldwide availability in next month, but no information on international pricing just yet.

Update: Misfit has confirmed that the Flash will cost C$49.99 and will be available at Best Buy (both online and in stores), MEC (online only) and Future Shop (online only).
