Sony to announce ‘Selfie’ phone on July 8th with front-facing LED flash

Sony is expected to unveil the Xperia C3 tomorrow, a self-proclaimed Selfie Phone that features an LED flash next to the front-facing camera.

As selfie functionality becomes increasingly important to the vain masses of the world, companies like Sony are taking full advantage. The Xperia C launched a year ago and featured self-guided prompts for taking the best self shot using the rear camera, but the C3 looks to make it even easier.

Chinese news site and retailer ePrice received an early version of the device, and shows what appears to be an accelerometer-based timer function whereby the user taps the back of the phone twice to initiate a countdown.

The C3 also looks to be a large device with mid-range specs, much like last year’s model, but the focus here will continue to be on the camera. Many manufacturers have started outfitting their devices with high-resolution front-facing cameras — the HTC One M8 sports a 5MP shooter, for example — so it wouldn’t be surprising to see Sony unveil the C3 with something similar.
