Microsoft Devices Group has unveiled the successor to the Nokia X, the aptly-named X2. The device runs a customized version of Android 4.3, but looks similar to Windows Phone 8, and is targeted to the “next billion” people.
The device’s price tag is set at €99 (about $150) and sports a 4.3-inch 800×480 “ClearBlack” display with a pixel density of 217ppi, a 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB of internal storage and microSD slot, a 5MP rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera. One of the key features of the X2 is its dual SIM slots and improved battery, now topped up to a 1800 mAh battery versus a 1500 mAh in the original. The X2’s dimensions are 121.7 x 68.3 x 11.1mm and it weighs 150 grams.
Microsoft’s services are well represented within the X2, with preloaded apps like Skype, Outlook.com, OneDrive, HERE Maps, and MixRadio. More third party apps can be downloaded from the Nokia Store.
The Nokia X2 looks to be well built and comes with exchangeable back covers for you to somewhat personalize. While there is no Canadian release date, the X2 is available in glossy orange, black and green, with glossy yellow, white and matte dark grey coming later.
