Wimbledon app for iOS and Android updated for 2014 tournament

If you need a break from football, London is hosting, as it does every year, the Wimbledon tennis grand slam from today until July 6th. As has been the trend for a number of years now, the association has released an app for users to follow along.

This year, the teams made a concerted effort to produce not only a quality iPhone version, but an Android version that can stand up on its own. Both versions feel quick and intuitive, with gesture-friendly navigation that makes it easy to check the latest scores, highlights and news. There’s a standalone iPad version as well for those who want a more full-featured app.

The app will send push notifications for game results of favourite players and other interesting pieces of news, too.

Those who want to actually watch the action have one choice: TSN Go. The Bell-owned network appears to have the broadcast rights for the entire tournament, and you’ll need a valid TV package to be able to stream the tournament. The Wimbledon app does broadcast a radio stream from three courts, though.
