Microsoft is hosting passersby, fans and customers at a Surface Cafe pop-up in Toronto this Friday ’til Sunday, showing off the new Surface 3 Pro and its many creative capabilities.
The Cafe takes over the space at 399 Queen St West, and those curious can stop by to play with the new 12-inch tablet or take part in one of the many workshops and events happening over the three-day period.
Over the three day period, Microsoft is hosting some notable names in fashion, photography, graphic design, music and entrepreneurship, culminating in a startup Hackathon of sorts on Sunday, June 22nd from 1pm to 4pm.
Dubbed Your Big Idea and the Surface 3, this event is not open to the public, as Microsoft is pooling from a number of talented startups, developers and entrepreneurs to win $10,000 in seed money from Microsoft, access to technology through the Microsoft BizSpark program and mentorship from Microsoft Ventures.
“A play on the ‘Hackathon’, we are inviting budding developers and entrepreneurs to sit down with an esteemed panel of judges, including legendary Canadian entrepreneur Michael Wekerle, to discuss their vision, their journeys and what up and coming startups need to be successful. After the discussion, each team will be given one hour to create a five-slide PowerPoint deck using the Surface Pro 3, outlining their business plan, and given five minutes to present their plan to the panel of judges.”
We’re partnering with Microsoft to give away a single entry for an individual or team to pitch their business plan to a panel of five judges:
- Michael Wekerle, CEO, Difference Capital
- Diana Olsen, Founder Balzac’s Coffee
- Dustin Sproat, founder of Shnarped
- Aron Solomon Senior, Advisor in Education Technology, MaRS
- Jane Zhang, Executive Director, TechSoup Canada, a program from Centre for Social Innovation
To win, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the name and one-line pitch of your startup, idea or product and we’ll select one at random by the end of the day on Thursday, June 19th!
