Windows Phone in Canada has been a rare breed. While we wait for manufacturers to produce handsets, many customers who desire to use this OS have been limited to one of Nokia’s Lumia smartphones. This year will apparently see new devices from both LG and Samsung, but in the meantime we can look forward to the Lumia 635 arriving soon.

According to Microsoft’s Windows Phone website, both Rogers and TELUS will be launching this 4.5-inch Windows Phone 8.1-powered device. There is no word on a specific date or the the price points (should be affordable). While the Lumia 635 comes in many colour options, Canada will only see the black version appear.

I believe 635 can swap shells. If so, a different colour is only an eBay away.

Wish all phones were like the 52x series, shell is solid and looks like its part of the phone yet easily replaceable with it gets scratched up. That’s an awesome feature of the 630 if it also does that. Too bad they don’t carry it over to their high end devices.

    • Frederick Edwards

True. Hopefully there’s a reseller in the USA. I paid $43 for a replacement shell for my 1320 from Spain, and $26 of that was shipping.

  • Marc Palumbo

This is awful! I’m still waiting for the 930 to come… I’ve put my hardware upgrade on hold for this

    • Eric Sylvain

Yep – still no 1520 or 930.. not cool.

    • Shoey5

1520 is too big for me but I’m really hoping and waiting that one of the carriers picks up the 930

    • Eric Sylvain

I could see how it would be too big for lots of people, but there’s always people looking for that massive screen too.
I would honestly be happy if either one came to Canada.. in either case it would be a nice upgrade from my 920.

    • Marc Palumbo

no doubt…My first priority would be the 1520, but I do realize that neither phone may come. I’ll just have to get the S5, sell it and then buy the 1520/930 outright.

      it’s most likely not coming

It is very frustrating for those who wants a windows phone in Canada. They always arrive here about 3 to 6 months compared to the rest of the world (when they arrive at all…). They also just offer one color instead of the whole range. It is details like this which does not give people the desire to buy a Nokia… We are the armpit of the Windows Phone market!

    • Marc Palumbo

Couldn’t have said this any better myself… This puts a damper on my desire for WP. I like my Ativ S but I’m looking for a sweet HD screen Nokia phone…. *SIGH*

  • Bri Bru

This device would be perfect if it came with with a 720p or above screen resolution.

  • skinnypig

Black only again? And no flagship 930. The situation in Canada is beyond frustrating.

    • Cormang

To be honest, I don’t want the 930. I have the 920 now but the 930 doesn’t have glance. I use glance all the time.
Hopefully another device will be coming to Canada soon.

Is it just me or did they put up the wrong picture for the 635 on Nokia’s page? The pic shows a phone with a flash, and I’m fairly sure the 635 doesn’t have one. Heck this is just sad. MS/Nokia doesn’t even care enough for Canada to put up the right picture.

Whenever I talk to Telus about the poor Windows phone selection, they tell me it is because the phones do not sell well. I try to explain that only having 2 options was the real reason they do not sell. Heck they even show 6 iPhones which are mostly different sizes of the same thing. There were 14 Android and 4 Blackberry phones. And even then the sales people push away from WP.

I managed to get a Lumia 1020, and even now it is gone. Great phone, spectacular photos.

Agree completely! On Friday I stopped at a cellular store. They were almost indignant about WP. Unfortunately, it has been my experience that the young adults working in these stores, who generally have no experience with the business world, the software that makes it work and who generally are happy to trade ‘free’ for ‘privacy’, are actively pushing customers into non-Windows phones. It’s unfortunate.

  • gwydionjhr

The specs on the resolution are correct, it is FVGA

  • Thoughtful

Two 635’s for us! (and two more 930’s when they are ready)

  • Alfred Kwan

    635 is AWS compatible, right?

  • Jonah Emery

512 mb of RAM means it’s a no go for me. I would be willing to pay more for a 1 gb option.
