SugarSync did away with its free tier last year in favour of several more sustainable paid account types, and the move seems to have worked. The company promised updates to its mobile apps in 2014, and the first is a nice one for Android.
After launching SugarSync 2.0 across multiple platforms, which brought a number of improvements, including automatic backup and a new design, Sugarsync 4.1.0.9 for Android brings offline folder sync — the ability to download files and folders from the cloud to be stored, automatically.
The updated version is also optimized for Android tablets, though there is still a legacy menu button due to SugarSync’s use of an older SDK. This needs to go.
Finally, the new app can export files to other Android apps, receive shared folder invites and upload photos and videos at full resolution.
If you’re a SugarSync subscriber, this is a great update, but the company really needs to work on improving the speed and design of its Android app to compete with Dropbox, Box and Google Drive.
