Typo, the iPhone 5/5s case that Ryan Seacrest and Co. cribbed notes from BlackBerry, has had its fair share of attention. The overall design is remarkably similar to the keyboard on several BlackBerry devices, namely the BB10 powered Q10 with its frets. The two companies are currently in a fierce patent infringement lawsuit, but that hasn’t stopped Typo from running out of stock.

Apparently this gem was in development for “nearly two years” before making it available to the masses for $99 USD last month. The idea, according to their site, “was born out of a desire for efficiency” to carry only one device, not “one for typing and correspondence and an iPhone for virtually everything else.”

If you want your iPhone to have a physical QWERTY keyboard then this is something to consider. The keyboard looks like a BlackBerry and also keys feel like. We’ve decided to give one away and all you have to do to enter this contest is either follow us and re-tweet this contest on Twitter (@mobilesyrup), “Like Us” on Facebook (Facebook.com/MobileSyrup), join us on Google+, or sign up for our e-newsletter. All current Facebook, Twitter and Google+ followers are automatically entered. This contest closes on February 16th.

I’ll stick to my BlackBerry, thanks.

    • abtoaihoihgoihaoi

nice to see that mobilesyrup is cool with and supports blatant copyright infringement.

    • djino

As obvious as it may seem, no Judgement or settlement in a court has yet to be determined.

  • REIRA

Smh, the thumbnail instantly reminded me of the Z30 and Q10 combined.

  • Chris Duffy

I would love one of these. I work in telecommunications and everyone wants the power of a superphone with the physical keyboard. This is an amazing idea !!!

    • rd0t

The power of a super phone and a physical keyboard? You just described BlackBerry 10. Now if you want a teenage girls phone with a keyboard, sure.. buy a Typo for your iPhone.

  • jellmoo

Any chance of Mobile Syrup doing a review on the Typo? I’m really curious as to your thoughts, as most of what I have read seems to indicate that the device is of questionable quality.

    • Keegan

Well even this article seems to be biased against the ‘typo’ and with good reason- I, too, believe that this is a blatant rip-off of Blackberry’s signature keyboard.
Honestly I think if MobileSyrup put up a review they would struggle to keep it unbiased, so maybe it’s best for them to just stay out of the drama.

    • jellmoo

Oh, I agree it is nothing more than a blatant rip off. I am curious as to how they feel it stands in terms of quality. A blatant rip off is bad. A blatant ripoff and shoddy is even worse.

I like Mobile Syrup reviews quite a bit, so I’d really like to get their opinion on the Typo.

    • EllSee

If you read Crackberry blogs, there is a pretty unbiased review of the keyboard. I know, that sounds counter-intuitive from a BB website. But the review has nothing to do with who is ripping off who. The person said he has broken 3 of those keyboards already.
The hardware apparently don’t last long for people actually use it for typing.

    • jellmoo

That was actually the review that grabbed my attention. One bad keyboard is anecdotal, but if multiple reviews find the same problem, then that is a symptom of poor quality.

    • EllSee

Thing is, he said he broke 3 of them already…. One, ok.. but three?? The only negative I think he gave the keyboard was the hardware quality I believe. Though, don’t quote me on that.

  • Anthony

    Awesome giveaway :)

  • Tom

    My sister could use one!

  • Andrew P.

Sure, I’ll enter. Maybe wifey would like it on her iP5. Or if not, I’ll find someone who does.

  • CF Medina

If they made one for Samsung Galaxy phones I’d gladly buy one… Patent infringement aside I love the idea of a bb keyboard on an actual smart phone!

    • It’s Me

Well, if it a case of being ok with patent infringement, maybe just wait for Samsung to release one for the Galaxy line. They have no problem with infringing.

Well, I was kidding, but then I remembered the Samsung BlackJack…

    • rd0t

The Z30 runs circles around any other smartphone in the market. Then again, you’re just another misinformed, uneducated ‘smartphone’ user.

    • CF Medina

You must be as equally misinformed and uneducated as the Z30 doesn’t have a physical keyboard… Which was the whole point of me wanting to get a typo. And hopefully one of your ‘circles’ doesn’t include a wide range of applications…

    • rd0t

I certainly wasn’t talking about a physical keyboard. I was talking about the BlackBerry keyboard, could mean either virtual or physical; the Z30 has the best touchscreen keyboard on the market. And applications? I can download any Android app I want with the new 10.2.1 os update with the ability to install any Android apk. So yes, I mean circles including a wide range of applications.

  • Jérémy Letendre-Côté

that would make a nice addition to the 5s!

  • Karine

    I’d love to win this

  • shameonyou

mobilesyrup is encouraging the demise of blackberry by giving this away. shame.

    • Canadianman23

I think blackberry is doing just fine in sending themselves to ruin.

  • Dimitri

Funny enough this look like a Z30 with a keyboard & Typo thinks they will win in court? Hmm..

No thanks. Will stay with a Blackberry.

  • kilowiko

Too many of you fanboys have your pAnties all in a bunch. Take a chill pill or have a nap. Lol

  • Scazza

I might be the only one who finds it funny that they rip off the blackberry keyboard, make Typo for the 5S, then put it in packaging that clearly rips off the iPhone 5C box… WTF is this company doing?

  • gua_ca_mo_le

Maybe this is a sign that Blackberry should bring back the Torch design? As a sales rep, I can’t tell you how many people have said that to me.

  • Mythos88

I’m not fan of either iPhones of Blackberrys but isn’t rather insensitive of MobileSyrup to be giving these away considering the ligation.

  • Hail Eff

BlackBerry SHOULD be fighting them over that – It looks exactly like a BlackBerry. Dumb people sometimes…

  • K Diddle

Wow… you have to charge the keyboard independantly from the phone… they didn’t integrate it to plug into the lightning adapter on the bottom and act as a keyboard and a spare battery like I thought… it’s really just a bluetooth keyboard smashed in the bottom of an ugly case…

  • Thorsten Garbe

that would come in handy, if i could just win something

  • Allwayswrite

BBQ Chicken is delicious in the morning

  • GQDRU

BUYER BEWARE! I purchased this POS Keyboard for my wife’s iPhone5 off their website and it took less than 24 hours for the keyboard to cause my wife’s phone to spiral into the Screen Of Death. Apparently even iPhones have a screen of death. We had to take the phone to telus and get it fixed. What a waste of $99. #Garbage

  • cartfan88

I’d like one before it goes the way of Flappy Birds.

  • Cathy Canton

Shared and like and RT all over the place Thanks for another giveaway!

  • batye1

  • Brendan Cardoso

Id love to have one of these!

  • Jason

    Don’t mind if I do

  • Spencer

Hmm… well, It still won’t make my like iPhone, but I am morbidly curious to see how this stacks up against my extensive collection of QWERTY phone.

  • Ariel C

    this would be awesome!

  • Nick T
