The City of Waterloo has been with BlackBerry through the good and bad. While the company is currently reshaping itself and receiving some positivity in the marketplace, the City has decided to stand behind them once again and show their faith in the brand.
The City of Waterloo “Finance and strategic planning committee meeting” minutes, dated January 20th, reveals that the City has extended its current Bell contract by 3-years at $172,000 per year. This brings the total contract price to $516,000. The doc also noted that “There are currently 204 BlackBerry devices and 166 mobile phone devices at the City of Waterloo. 50 of the BlackBerry devices have been upgraded to BlackBerry 10 (BlackBerry 10 Pilot Project Group).”
Mayor Brenda Halloran said “A lot of our crews will have them — all our planners, our bylaw guys who are out, firefighters… We just feel that it keeps us connected so that if we need to get anything done we have instant connection.” When specifically asked about BlackBerry, Halloran stated “We see it as really important in doing the business of the city — being able to react quickly and efficiently.”
