Google has finally released the Nexus 5 to the masses and confidently declared they’re aiming at “reaching the next 1 billion users.” To celebrate this launch Google has uploaded a feel good video to show off the device and how happy one would be with it.

So two guys holding hands walk into city hall…. And nothing! Because that’s not legal in the US… Lol

    Filmed in Canada?

At least there was a plug for ice climbing in there. Clearly the coolest part of the video, puns optional!

    • Bri

Not legal for two men to hold hands in US city hall?

    • Laer

Clearly, in the context of the video motif, they were on their way to civil union.

You’ve perhaps been the victim of an intentionally dangling modifier, or two? Plus one pun.

    • Sensualpoet

Actually, gender-blind same-sex marriage is legal in 14 states and the District of Columbia. These include New York State and California. These are full marriages, just like in Canada (not civil unions).

  • Junaid Marmeladov

This should be the ad for the Lumia 1020 lol… All in all I can not wait for my N5 to get here!

  • Mäuri Freitas

g2 does everything this phone does and better, I pass

    • Ryan

well yeah, if you already have a G2 why would you with the bigger battery, ugly UI skin though

    • Maxwell M

That’s a given. The appeal of the Nexus devices never has been ‘the-best-phone-ever, it’s more of a what-you-get-for-the-price, and the vanilla android experience to a degree.

    • HatInTheRing

It’s OS isn’t better. I’ll take vanilla Android over Android skins, anyday. And with it, Kit-Kat, rather than the G2 which is running 4.2.2, already 2 updates behind. And every update Google does to Android while LG lags. The G2 might get Kit-Kat by the time the N5 is running Key Lime Pie.

I’ll also take a phone that is unlocked on delivery with no carrier bloatware or branding. No thanks Rogers, you can keep Rogers Map and Rogers Nav and Rogers One Number and Rogers TV and the other 8 pieces of junk I can’t uninstall. And pop in a local SIM anywhere I go.

Also the screen is visibly sharper than the G2 in side by side comparisons, which has the same technology but is bigger. This is the best screen in a phone on the planet. Also the G2 has Gorilla Glass 2 vs the N5 which is GG3 and tested to be 3 times stonger. I’ve had 3 phones with GG2, they’re shattered within 6 months.

    • Henry

First off you should be more careful with phones dude! Anyway’s I just wanted to mention the Key lime pie won’t be the next version as ‘K’ is already taken.

    • HatInTheRing

Good point. I meant Lemon Meringue Pie or Lemon Drop or Lolipops or Lick-a-Stick.

  • iphoneeeeee

First he should get an iPhone!!!!

    • HatInTheRing

He should, that way the pics and vids of his shenanigans would be too blurry to convict.

  • Jim

Wait this commercial is about people out living life. Shouldn’t Android appeal to its real users which are losers sitting in their bedroom trying to install some kind of pointless program or widget so they can brag about it?

    • GQDRU

You are most likely an iPhone user so I will try and keep this short for you. Nexus 5 Good! You buy now!

    • HatInTheRing

That’s the best you got? Witty…

    • Me Ted

      Well that was inappropriate.

    • MrGreen72

Well I won’t take sides because I love both my iPad and my Galaxy S3, but you do come off as a bit of an insecure douche with that comment.

But then again, with the amount of Apple trolling going on around here I guess I can’t blame you too much for fighting back I guess.

  • noobmobile

Ok guys help me decide. My employer is offering me:

    Galaxy note 3 for 400$
    Nexus 5 for 150$

    I think I will love both phones… Help me make a decision…!!!

    • Raj Singh

note 3 all the way dont even blink…

    • MrGreen72

Get the Nexus 5 and spend $250 on beer and hookers!

    • Philosoraptor

Those must be some cheap hookers.

    • MrGreen72

      They’re okay!

Prepare for some Coors Lite, though.

    • TheMentalist

      enjoy your herpes

    • MrGreen72

      That. Was. A. Joke. :-/

      *sigh*

    • Henry

hey man I got it. I usually say hookers and blow but I’m picking up what your putting down!

    • MrGreen72

      Henry == TheMentalist ?

    • Henry

      Yeah haha that’s me

    • MrGreen72

      HA HA!

Your cover has been blown! ;-)

    • canucks4life

      Three words…Pattaya Walking Street :)

    • MrGreen72

And I had to Google that… At work…

      *curses*

    • HatInTheRing

Comes down to whether or not you want a phablet. Personally, the Note 3 is too big for me. But it’s amazing.

    • Me Ted

I think touchWiz is a complete disaster so I’d probably go with the N5. That’s just me though.

    • jeff

As a current samsung GS3 user, I really like the horsepower of the Note3, but everyday I have deal with the bloatware and slow software that is touchwiz. I am buying the Nexus 5 for a clean android experience. The high res screen and the SOC are icing on the cake. I would pick up a Note 3 if there was a google edition, otherwise you will spend the majority of your daily life waiting for the phone to respond and clicking away popup “help” menus…

  • tyresmoke

If their goal is to reach the next billion users, you would think they would ask LG to produce more than 25 minutes worth of inventory.

    • iphoneee’s bro

      LMAO. true that.

    • MrGreen72

      Oh snap!

    • HatInTheRing

See @f_young:disqus comment. They’re referring to Kit Kat which works on Androids low RAM phones that are eternally trapped on old versions of the OS. It may actually hit a billion…

    • Me Ted

Well I don’t think LG is really all that keen on the N5 outselling the G2 especially at that insane price point. I’m sure they have an agreement with Google to limit production.

  • F Young

“Google has finally released the Nexus 5 to the masses and confidently declared they’re aiming at “reaching the next 1 billion users.”

Actually, the billion users Google referred to were Android KitKat users, not Nexus 5 users, due to Kitkat’s low RAM requirements.

  • Charlie Gaziano

tl;dw Google Nexus 5. It has a camera!

    • Me Ted

til Charlie is new to smartphone ads.

  • HatInTheRing

Curious to see how the camera does in tests.

This video suggests the photo’s will be great (indoors with backlight, in a field at night).

PS. My 32gb in black is ordered. Can’t wait.

    • Vinny

Man im so jealous… did you order yesterday within the legendary 27 minutes when it launched? I’m just refreshing the page every minute to see if they have any inventory

    • Henry

I got two yesterday, one about 90 min after launch and another two hours later. Just keep trying, they come in batches

    • HatInTheRing

I thought I missed it. I was on top of the blogs for a month waiting for the release. I went for lunch and returned to “announced” then “16gb sold out” then “32gb sold out”, all in the half hour I was gone. I was devastated, so I feel your pain.

Then it updated to say “new stock, better hurry”. So I did. My status says shipping by November 8th. Hopefully that means ASAP. I want it before the long weekend.

Apparently the first batch said ships by November 5th and at midnight last night they all got their shipping confirmations.

  • Me Ted

Agreed but not the right place for it.

  • marshallpower

I like Google and the Nexus but not the ad….every serious marriage will have its own professional photographer and not with a cell phone but with a DSLR…

  • 01011001001

    tacky

  • Jorelle

That is one incredibly catchy song. Kind of wish there was release for a single.

  • Canada Nexus5

Just received my tracking number for 32 Gig Nexus 5 I ordered. Left Kentucky at 5 Pm Eastern Nov 1st.
