Rogers goes live with LG G2, Galaxy Note 3 and Lumia 1020 pre-orders, offers up free cases

lgg2

The onslaught of new devices is upon us. Apart from the new iPhones, the LG G2, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Nokia Lumia 1020 will all make a presence over the next few weeks.

Rogers has opened up its online reservations for each of these new smartphones. In addition, to differentiate themselves from other carriers, Rogers will be giving customers who pre-order the G2 and Lumia 1020 free cases.

Those who sign up and reserve the LG G2 will receive a free Quick Window Cover (retail value of $50) – this is basically a case that protects the G2 with a window to show your alerts, messages and time. According to the fine print, the case offer for the G2 is only good between “September 15 and September 27 through Rogers Reservation System. LG G2 1020 must be activated in store within 7 days of receiving the Rogers Reservation System shipment notification.” The LG G2 is hitting stores on September 27th and the no-term pricing is expected to be between $600 – $650, while the 2-year contract price will approximately run you $179.

If you’re considering grabbing the Nokia Lumia 1020, Rogers will give you a free Camera Grip Case – must be ordered before October 3rd and brings you an additional 1020mAh built-in rechargeable battery.

As for the Galaxy Note 3 – no case or extras included, but the launch date is expected to be happening on October 4th.

    Reserve this Rogers.

  • Super_Deluxe

The only reason they added a free case with the 1020 and G2 is cuz they know the Note 3 will kill their sales.

    • Ugslick

Because people are too deluded by brands. Anyone who picks up the G2 will find a phone that is more or less better than the Note 3 (besides the stylus support)

    • Super_Deluxe

Lack of SD card slot is why I passed on it cuz I don’t use onboard storage due to the fact that it gets completely whiped if your phone crashes. That’s why I bought a 32GB SD card and I do plan on using it since I paid a lot for it.

    • Ugslick

I have an older LG phone, and with the way the memory is partitioned, even when I factory reset my phone I have pretty much all my data (besides apps, and app data that wasnt backed up) still on the drive. But I see where you’re coming from. Personally I don’t really use sd cards, only for transferring stuff sometimes, or to keep music on (since my phone is only 8gb).. With a 32gb I wouldn’t need that either :P

    • Nadefrenzy

Do explain how. LG’s camera isn’t as good, nor does their phone have 4K recording.

Their screen isn’t as big, nor is it AMOLED (personal pref I suppose so ignore that). They don’t have 3GB of ram, nor does it have the stylus.

It also is a lot thicker.

Please judge the phones objectively, not with bias.

    • Ugslick

LG’s camera on the G2 is better than the S4, or iPhone (especially in low light conditions) so yeah, it is better. No one needs 4K recording, so thats not really a selling point. The screen is IPS, which is imo much better than AMOLED… But yeah that is personal preference.

Screen size, and the stylus are the only two things (well I guess expandable storage as well) that the Note 3 has over the G2. And that’s only if you can stand the size. I don’t think the thickness is too much of a difference, especially when you’re considering the overall size of the phone (I mean the bigger it is the thinned you want it, but if a smaller phone is slightly thicker it wouldn’t make as much of a difference) and for the thickness you get great battery life :)

    • Dimitri

All that is great & dandy BUT remember LG’s track record on updating their devices. Also I have heard plenty of horror stories with LG Devices. The last LG device i used was the LG Prada & LG TU515 flip phone.

The ONLY way i will go back to LG is if they start updating their devices to new software & actually care about the customers not them selfs. How come Samsung was about to put 4.3 on the Note 3 but LG decided to put 4.2.2 on the G2?

Its a great device & all but rather stick to the Note 3. SD card support, Removable battery, USB 3.0, S-Pen, Multi View, 3GB RAM, More sensors,

    • Nadefrenzy

I totally missed those points. Well said.

I’d only really ever buy an LG phone if it’s a google stock Nexus phone. Otherwise, nope.

    • Dimitri

I never even bought a LG Nexus device. I only have used the Galaxy Nexus. Just never thought of owning a LG mobile phone again. I own a LG TV / Blueray player but not a phone.

All those points are something many forget or do not know. Mostly my main point of getting the Note 3 is the removable battery. Its easier to change batteries on the go instead of waiting for it to charge.

    • Nadefrenzy

Yea. Hopefully they have that slick battery deal (as they did for Note 2 where the battery was $8 OEM) again. That’d be sweet!

    • Dimitri

Hopefully they do!. Rogers does not seem to want to advertise the Note 3 it seems..

    • Nadefrenzy

Gee that reminds me of “No one will need more than 637 kB of memory for a personal computer”—Gates.

Hmm based on that logic we don’t need 3GB of ram or Full HD screens or slimmer phones, or Quadcore SOCs.

Also look at the camera samples. The Note 3 beats the G2 and competes with the Z1 (albeit Z1 takes the cake tbh).

A premium handset with a 9mm thickness especially if it’s plastic is a joke. HTC One gets leeway cuz it’s aluminum, but not the G2. Samsung managed a plastic phone with a bigger screen and a bigger battery and expandable storage, and still made it a lot slimmer than the G2.

That’s engineering my friend. I care about that stuff when i’m throwing $700+ onto a smartphone.

    • Dimitri

Mind you, the Lumia 1020 case seems pretty good. You get a extra battery with that case as well built in.

I wish they could have at least given the Note 2 reservations a case as well. Even if its not a Samsung case, another case would be fine.

Anyone considering this should go read the arstechnica review. LG’s UI is even worse than Touchwiz.

    • Ugslick

From everything I’ve heard and seen, LG’s UI is far superior, it’s much smoother and performs better, more customizable, and has all the features a Samsung phone has, and has the best specs out there to boot.

    • thedosbox

Go read the arstechnica review. The reviewer used to write for androidpolice, and provides plenty of examples of how inconsistent and messed up the UI is.

    • Ugslick

Okay, I will later today, but I’ve read most of the other reviews online and most of them say it isn’t as bad as people thought it would be.

    • thedosbox

LOL, Anand’s “mini review” doesn’t even talk about the user interface. GSM arena’s reviews are just click bait with a listing of features and no assessment of UI quality.

Ars’ review focuses on the poor quality UI because that’s what differentiates phones nowadays – the user experience. You may be willing to put up with that, but many people won’t.

Ya I really can’t respect anyone lower than top 5. Sorry.

    • Costa Minitsios

      Number 7 here

    • Dimitri

Nice nice!. Hopefully we get them on launch day!. I really hope its not like last year with the Note 2 where only the first couple of people got it & the rest had to wait for other days to get it…

    • bhavit sharma

Where do you order online? i cant see anywhere on rogers showing note 3

    • Dimitri

It is there. Verified it with 5 different accounts. Log into your My Rogers – Overview – select account I want – Device Reservation. Once on the Wishlist page, on the right hand side you will see a Dropbox menu saying ” Apple IPhone” click on that and it will show u Samsung Galaxy, LG. click on the Samsung Galaxy and pick a colour.

There is no GB pick so I guess we get the 32GB one.

  • Dimitri

You have to call the closest Rogers store and ask. Normally they do not let outright buys at launch unless they changed that and it depends on every store.

    • Nadefrenzy

Bah nvm i guess. It’ll probably be upwards of $800 to purchase. I might as well buy it from Kijiji for $700 or so unlocked.

  • Brent Meisner

Was 26th in line reserving my 1020. Been waiting a long time for this :)

    • mwahahahaha

what colour? I’m leaning to yellow, but its so bold. Black seems a bit boring.

    • Günter Schwarz

Yellow Nokia phones are nice. I had a 920 in yellow, just be prepared to have people ask you if your phone is actually yellow or if it’s just a case :P

    • Brent Meisner

Oh yea, Yellow all the way :)

  • Dimitri

There is no release date for the Note 2 either. It seems Rogers likes to put up devices on the reservation system but never give out actual dates or info.

  • mrmprince

For existing customers, is the reservation only for renewing the 2-yr contracts? Or can it also be for ppl who are getting the phone outright?

    • Dimitri

You can reserve the phone & once you go to the store, you can either do a upgrade on the account you want OR buy it outright BUT the stores usually make you do a upgrade on the launch day. Most stores do NOT do let customers do outright buys.

Contact the store you want to reserve it too & talk to the store manager. See what they can say & get their name as well.

    • mrmprince

thanks! I’m looking to get the 1020 outright but don’t want to miss the chance of getting the free camera grip! I suppose the store manager will know the outright price too…?

    • Dimitri

The stores do NOT get the price info until Rogers head office releases that info. So calling the store now asking about the outright price, will get you no where sadly. The managers will get told a few days before the launch about prices.

    • mrmprince

talked to someone in the store and he said you can only reserve it online and it doesn’t matter whether it’s for 2-yr contract or outright…when the store has it in stock, they’ll just call you and decide what to do. Does that sound right?

    • Dimitri

Rogers Stores can NOT reserve or pre order you one. That is why they told you to do it online. Once the phone is shipped to the store, they will call you & you decide what you want to do with it.

  • jpom18

I was excited about this phone and was thinking about pre-ordering even though as a corporate customer I don’t get the free case. One thing that bothers me though is that Cellcom wireless (our corporate dealer) has the phone listed on their site with no price but states 16GB memory. I have checked this on other Rogers Authorized Dealer sites and they say 16GB as well. Without a SD slot I can’t deal with 16, I need at least 32GB. Hopefully Rogers get some info on their site soon and shows that they are carrying the 32GB version instead of or as well as the 16GB.

    • Dimitri

If you are talking about the LG G2 go on LGs site. U will see its a 32GB model.

The note 3 will have a 32GB storage as well. Both device come with 32GB models in Canada. Samsung said this as well and LG states that on the site.

  • Kenny G

I’m sure that $179 price for the LG G2 will drop once the Nexus phone comes out. I’ll wait it out. Plus, Rogers plans aren’t that great.

    • Dimitri

Rogers is selling the LG G2 at $199 on a 2 year term. They changed the price now.

    • Kenny G

      Not cool. :-/

    • Dimitri

Yea i know:/. It seems Rogers has the LG G2 & the Nokia Lumia 1020 for $199 on a 2 year term BUT the Note 3 is no where to be found. No pricing or page for it.

    • Kenny G

I here you. I’m sure the Note 3 will start at $199 for 2-yrs too, no matter which carrier it goes to. Sigh.

    • Dimitri

I really hope so as i want the Note 3 & do NOT want to pay $299 for it on a 2 year term. Even tho the Flextab amount will go lower the more you pay upfront, still tho.

  • Ron

Will an unlocked Rogers phone work on a Bell or Telus network?

    • Dimitri

      Yes it will.

  • stann

I’m sure the free case will persuade many people to switch to Rogers!

    • Dimitri

I can see if happening for the Lumia 1020. The LG G2 even tho at $49.99 anyone that wants it will get it. Either way it’s a great promotion BUT they should have done this for the Note 3 as well.

  • v b

Those with corp plans/business accounts, has anybody been able to reserve any of the new phones?

  • Sanjay Saini

Latest android update has been a disaster for the original Note, and isn’t the Note 2 still on 4.1? I sure hope Samsung gives the Note 3 better support.

  • Jaz Kahlon

Does anybody know if the LG G2 is LTE-A compatible. Its been a nightmare trying to get an answer from any of the retailers…
