Buy Me a Pie! brings its excellent shopping list app to Android

After four million downloads on iOS, Buy Me a Pie! has arrived on Android. The Russian dev team, which recently incorporated under the same name, has been teasing an Android version for months — it was originally supposed to be released in January — but instead took their time to get it right.

BMAP is a shopping list app that can sync between devices and users over the cloud. The free version is local-only, but the interface is quite modern and fairly intuitive. The app comes preloaded with hundreds of grocery items, grouped by colour into various categories. Auto-complete makes it a fairly uncomplicated process to fill the list for the first time, and reusable entries allow for easy turnaround on staples like bread, milk and cheese.

The company is completely bootstrapped, and is exploring making the $3.11 CDN Pro version free, but for now it needs the revenue from the paid app to fund its next venture. I’ve been using the paid version for a few weeks, and have found it to be a reliable and useful tool, especially when used as a collaborative shopping list.

While there are some excellent shopping list apps that support sync at no charge — Capigami’s Out Of Milk comes to mind — it lacks the speed and intuitive interface of Buy Me a Pie!. The company is also planning to add features, including a widget, which should quell some of the initial reservations about the price.
