HTC teases “Big Things Ahead” to steal Samsung’s spotlight

HTC is teasing some “big things ahead” on the day Samsung asks us to “note the date.” The company is poised to announce its HTC One Max, which leaked earlier, in the near future, a 5.9-inch Galaxy Note competitor that is expected to have high-end specs and a vivid 1080p display.

There is no doubt the company needs a hit, as even though the HTC One has been acclaimed around the world, and has sold fairly well, the company’s stock and balance sheet are hurting. Last quarter, HTC barely made a profit, and is warning of a loss for the coming three months ending September 30th.

Though the HTC One Mini was recently announced, it’s unlikely to reach beyond Europe and Asia; North America’s hunger for big-screen phones has somewhat dampened the allure of mid-range devices. The HTC One Max, if it is so called, will be much more likely to take off in Canada and the US.

Whether HTC has any other tricks up its sleeve remains to be seen; the One Mini was a pared-down version of the One, with slower hardware and the same UltraPixel camera, but the Max will need to be more than just a bigger version of the flagship. Samsung’s Galaxy Note differentiates itself from the Galaxy S line by incorporating the S Pen and focusing on the business market as a result.

Let me paraphrase it, North America’s BIG3’s hunger for big-easy-money has dampened the phone market to the ground leave no choice to people. Hello contracts 1-2-3 years doesn’t matter, bye-bye open phone market!

I have a S3 and the 5 inches screen…just wow, all people complaining about it just never used it. Stick with your iphone but the screen size, honestly, its a game changer. The bigger, the better

I guess it’s a matter of preference. I’m phone pocket guy, and an s3 will make me look really big if it fits. Lol. My wife has the htc one and loves it. I just make fun of it but though it is a nice phone but too big.

      S3’s screen is 4.8″

While the ad might be aimed at the One Max, I think the intention was to tease the partnership they have with Robert Downey Jr.

It does look like it’s him in the videos being posted by HTC PR.

i always thought HTC should have been the number 1 phone company. ever since my htc elf running windows mobile 6.1

If the S4 can’t fit comfortably in your pocket then it’s time to drop the super skinny jeans

    • Azim Merali

Well I do like skinny jeans but don’t like girly phones. I don’t need a phone to make me look bigger lol. Ill stick to my man phone. Maybe in my next life ill buy a plastic phone. Hmmm not

    • southerndinner

lol the iPhone isn’t a manphone, it’s for seniors and sorority girls

    • Azim Merali

Lemme guess you are that kinda guy puts your huge phone on ur pants to substitute for what you lack. Why don’t you take a look at all the girls you see Wht phone they use. And then look down at ur crotch and see how lame it looks. Peace out

    • Aiden

Hah, in what alternate universe is the iPhone considered manly? It’s tiny like a toy!

    • imrangr1

      Or carry a purse 😀

  • southerndinner

Big things ahead? They must be referring to their profit loss

    • Sierra

I hope they stay afloat, HTC make wonderful, durable, devices.
Their build quality is second to none.
They just need a better vision for their lineup, and they need to get their $#@% together, and continue focus on providing updates instead of dropping devices after like 1 year.

I phone users always make fun of androids claiming that the screens are too big and too big to hold until they watch a youtube video or play a game on one of em! Still lovin my S3 and can’t wait to see how competitive HTC will get! They make a great phone 🙂

Honestly the only thing that makes me hesitate from buying this phone is two capacitive buttons instead of 3 or 4. Honestly if they just did onscreen buttons I’d buy this day one.
